Customers praised this collapsible brooder for being "easy to set up" and "easy to store." It comfortably houses 4-12 chicks with room for feeders, waterers, and heat plates. Shoppers loved the clear sliding doors and waterproof material. However, some noted it's "a bit pricey," the door latch is flimsy, and chicks outgrow it in 1-2 weeks with larger flocks.

    Buy this the first time

I’ve had many setups for my day old chicks that came in the mail. I wished I would’ve bought this set up first! I had a brooder heat plate and a stand up chicken coop heater and got the heat up to 95-97 like you need for newborn chicks. As they got older I took one of the heaters out. I have 3 chicks at now 6 weeks. I’m gonna transition them with other chickens in a quarantined area so they can get use to each other. I will continue using the red barn for this. I’ve almost burnt my house down and killed one of my previous chicks because I couldn’t stabilize the heat and those awful heat light bulbs. DONT MESS WITH ANYTHING ELSE!! Buy this first. Very Happy.

    Fantastic brooder!

We purchased 2 of these for local teachers to use in their classroom. The clear sliding doors are perfect to let kids look inside. It comes collapsible for easy storage and have lots of options for attaching feeders/waterers and heat plants. We have 7 chicks in 1 and they have plenty of room. We have 6 ducklings in the other and they fit ok for about 2.5 weeks.

    It’s bare bones box only

I was under the assumption you get what this pictures shows of “what’s in the box” but in fact you only get the box itself and a jute pad. That being said- I think this product is excellent though not necessary. I have a cat and this helps immensely and it works great with all of the “extras” you have to add on. I would not have originally purchased this at this price if I knew it were the barn only but now I kind of got stuck with it in a sense because I had just gotten babies and was counting on having it. Amazon was no help and neither was the company itself honoring what is advertised in the pics- it’s misleading and it’s still up there. Again though I do love the products- I’ve had a larger waterer for a few years now and it’s great and was why I looked up stuff for babies. I ended up purchasing the heat plate and it’s great for peace of mind and the chickens seem to enjoy it. Much better for a good even heat.

    Perfect Brooder!

I absolutely love this Little Red Barn. I have 4 new chicks and this is PERFECT! It is super simple to put together and even with the heat plate, waterer and feeder, there is plenty of room. I ordered this before the Big Red Barn came out, bummer, but I love this one and so do my chicks. Highly recommend all Rent a Coop products.

Easy to clean and set up

I got this for my hatchlings so they have a safe place they can stay warm under the heat plate and learn the ropes of eating and drinking. I love how easy it is to set up and clean up. I like that there is a top on it in case I need to use it for sick birds that might try to jump out. I want by another one I am so happy with it.

Safe from cat and the chicks from flying out!

It took less than a minute to unfold the Little Red Barn and assemble. There are only 3 pieces. The "Barn", the lid and the insert for the bottom. The top is made to stay on snuggly with 3 velcro areas. There are straps that are made onto the lid and velcro areas
are already attached for you on the "barn," 1 strip in back and 1 on each end. The material is plastic and looks yo be made in cardboard style, except in plastic. Once together it is pretty sturdy. I am housing 4 chicks. The pictured ones are 3 weeks old as of 2/12/24. It is smaller in length than expected but, the description said it would hold 4, and it does. I wouldn't put any more than that. Plus, I also have the warmer, their food and water enclosed with them. If you purchase this absolutely buy the attachments for water and food so that you have more room than I do. I will be getting those in the future as these 4 chicks will be growing much larger. The lid keeps them contained and keeps my nosey cat out!! All in all it is a good investment and when done, it will fold flat again for storage and should clean up very nicely!! Paid $39 it will pay for itself in that it is reusable!

    Perfect coop!!

This was the most adorable thing ever. So easy to set up, totally simple to clean. Lightweight yet sturdy. I kept 8 chicks in it for the first two weeks of their lives (they went to family homes after) and it was the perfect home. I added a heat plate with their water and food, filled the coop with pine shavings, and the chicks loved nestling together to sleep. They would happily come to the window when they heard me getting up, and it was so cute to slide open those windows and have them hop out. I decided they were gifted chicks that needed enrichment so I also purchased a bridge to climb, toys, and a roost with mirrors. They loved seeing themselves in the mirrors.

I’m a teacher and I carried this to and from school with me every day and it held up beautifully. Totally recommend!!!

    Love it!!!

This is such a cool product!!!! I love it and so do my birds…. My only complaint is that the description is a little misleading and when I ordered this I thought it came with all the pieces. This is just the box, it is NOT the kit. I paid significantly more money buying each piece individually but it is worth it. I have 25 chickens that I have raised from chicks and this setup is by far the coolest.

I have the large version & it’s great

The smaller version was too small. Fine for vet visits but I have a kennel box so I returned it. I very much like the large brooder. It has been very excellent. Waterproof, easily cleaned & well ventilated. It gets changed up inside to keep the birds entertained with potted herbs, toys & perches of different types. The rent-a-coop watered & feeder save floor space. The warmer that comes with the large was perfect for four until they were fully feathered. It fit well in the brooder & its adjustable height was crucial. I surrounded it with the available feather drape & the birds truly relaxed with that sense of mother’s wing. My outdoor coop build has been delayed so this larger brooder is housing four 8 week old chicks. I let them out several times a day in my cordoned off sunroom to clean & let them exercise but for now it does the job of a coop. The latch on the clear doors, which my birds have loved having to watch the outdoors through, is the weak point. It isn’t latching easily anymore. Having to tie it closed. But I recommend this brooder box for your first foray in raising chicks indoors.

Easy to put together, only good for about 2 weeks

I loved how easy it was to put together and the front door access. I hatched 10 chicks and they outgrew this in 1-2 weeks. Disappointed I didn’t get to use it longer.

    Bit pricey

Great size and surprisingly sturdy. Easy to use and safe for the chicks. Performs perfect as a brooder. For the materials used to make it, I would expect the price to be a tad lower.

    It’s ok

They work well. But a lil on the pricey side plus parts were missing. Luckily we were able fix with our issues. Holds about 8 chicks comfortably. With out heat element

    Perfect for my baby chicks

Sooo convenient! Easy to clean! Looks cute too! Will fold it up so perfectly and put it aside for the next bunch of babies.

Latch for door is SO flimsy

This is very convenient. Not heavy so you can move it around easily. I use it as a chicken hospital. Only problem are the doors and latch. It’s easy to open it from the inside and outside. My sick chicken escaped a few times before I tied up the door. And I put this in the run one time and my other chickens were able to open the door from the outside.

    Perfect for our Brahma chicks

This brooder is the perfect size for larger chicks. There is room for chicks, feeder, and waterer. There is no heat source included, but room enough to add one. Easy to "assemble" (just unfold it).

    Eh

Was not expecting it to be cardboard.. didn’t realize I was purchasing something that I could basically make myself. Cute concept, and design just not worth the price at all. Hopefully it’ll hold up.

    Easy setup

I have 2 1 week baby silkies and the size is good for them it’s pretty easy set up and better than the wire cage. I will add a perch soon but for early weeks and months it’s safe and perfect for what I need right now! Especially transporting them
