Customers said this 2-gallon waterer keeps water clean and algae-free with its opaque design. "Very well made, thick plastic" and easy to install with cups or nipples. Most praise durability and convenience, though some noted leaking cups, lack of insulation, and difficulty obtaining replacement parts. Holds enough water for multiple days.

    Hookup to outside

Works great hooked up on outside of coop for easy refill. One cup not filling fully so may need to swap out with the spare that they provided. Does take 2 people to attach cups when hooked up this way.

Do yourself a favor and get this. Immediately.

Absolutely in LOVE with this thing. It has my made my life so much easier in caring for my layer chickens. I can’t find a single flaw.

PROS: sturdy enough. By no means is the plastic some crazy space grade material, but it is of decent quality. Super easy to setup; twist on the little nozzle thingy majigs, put 2 screws into the wall, hang it up, fill it up, and bam! Done. Easy to lift off the screws to refill, or just bring the hose into the coop. The lid pops off. The hardware(mount, screws), seems to handle water with no issues. Holds well in our hardie board walls. Haven’t seen a single lick of chicken poo since we’ve gotten this, they can’t roost on top of it. No more daily changing of water!

    CONS: None!!

This thing has been a life saver. So glad we switched to this instead of the traditional “jug with rim-bowl” style. The chickens always sat up top and dirtied the water every single day. No more. Do yourself a favor. Spend the money on this, it will save so much in caring for them. I have six chickens, so I’ll probably be getting another one as soon as some more funds come in.

    A few considerations ...

Likes: easy to clean, easy to fill great convenience for my 4 chickens and an overall great design.
Dislikes: mountimg to wire with attached hardware can be problematic, easy fix with a small keychain carabiner clip. ..also chicken cups are medium strength and useless once cup is popped off as spring goes flying .. a fullgrown hen could (and has a few times now) somehow popped off the cup..draining the system..
    Solutions for dislikes,
find some small carabiner clips for the mounting, you won't lose them as easily
For the cups, maybe switch to a nipple year round? Or find a better cup to place so the cup cannot pop off.

Overall the watering system works great. Mounting and water delivery has held up for the 9 months I've had it but I have had to replace the cups 3x. If the chickens remove the cup it can be snapped back on but without that spring, the auto water feature doesn't work and the container drains.

Wow. This is a game changer for small backyard flock.

This is something i have been trying to patent myself but just never got around to it. I suppose i can’t say that there is one perfect waterer for every situation. So maybe a combination of a few different kind is the way to go. For a small 5 bird backyard flock this is perfect. For me This is suitable for outside the coop , in their chicken run area. When it gets very hot I put ice cubes in it. This review is for the cups but also for the square waterer. I believe that this is a perfect design for attaching to exterior of coop and the solid plastic , rather the clear , makes it harder fir algae growth. So far no leaks, any negative reviews seem to focus on the cups ariving broken or not holding up long. But for a small flock I figure even if the need to be replaced a few times a year (the cups) it’s still worth it. They are really easy to clean also. There is an inner lining but it’s also simple to do a quick wipe with laser towel while in place. Very pleased.

    YOU NEED THESE!!

This product is exactly what I have been looking for and have struggled to find. I have been looking for a vertical waterer with nipple system, to hang inside the coop to spare floor space and mess. This RentACoop waterer came with every last thing I needed to be able to hang it in my coop, and also came with two watering cups as well as two nipples, and they even included one spare of each, and a kit to mount from the outside of the coop, if you want to. This went up so easily, and was filled so easily, and the chickens learned how to use it very quickly. Some figured it out on their own by their curious pecks, but others I picked up, and tapped their beaks against the nipple so they could feel the water come out. Once one figured it out, the rest followed.

I also purchased the feeder (also seen in my pics) which was installed just as easily, and came with all necessary parts, and exterior mounting kit also. When I filled the feeder, I did have to stick my hand in the little hole and pull some of the feed inside to allow more to fall down, but I did this to increase the visible mound so they would see more easily to learn how to use it. I'm confident once they learn how to eat from it, this step may not be necessary every time. Although honestly, it is an easy step for such a convenient system. This also looks like it will be way better at preventing pests!

Love this set so much, YOU NEED THESE!!

Opaque container keeps waterer algae free!

I like these waterers. The 2 gallon works well for my chickens and rabbits. The cup dispensers work better than the pecking dispensers. I didn’t realize how much more water they drank till I switch to the cups rather than the pecking ones for the chickens or the the tube ones for the rabbits. Both prefer the ready fill cups.Be careful with the cups. They are spring loaded to automatically dispense. One of the cups came apart and I lost the spring because I wasn’t aware it had one till I couldn’t figure out why it didn’t work. Luckily they send a spare cup.I especially like the heavy opaque containers that do not allow light in. Months later and the interior is just as white as when I bought it. Because it is opaque, doesn’t let light in which in turn doesn’t encourage algae to grow like my other waterers both rabbit and chicken. That is a huge plus to keeping these waterers clean and algae free!Easy to assemble. They are easy to fill and transport with the built in handles. The clips do hang the waterer on even the smallest grid of fencing. 2-2.5 gallons is enough to feed 7 rabbits for 4 days or 20 chickens for 2 days.If you hang the cups at shoulder height like the directions state, the cups stay reasonably clean, much cleaner than the typical chicken waterer. I would highly recommend.

    Good product for chickens

Wish these were insulated against summer heat. Used with nipple attachment.

    Good Waterer

The product works. I was so excited about it I sent Rentacoop an enthusiastic email, and it turns out they don't answer emails.
That makes me less anxious to recommend the product, even a decent product with no customer care to back it up tends to be a bit of a gamble.

    Security and no leaking!

This is the second year using the same waterer. It is holding up extremely well. And it is reassuring to know that our chickens have water when they are closed up in their coup. It does not leak.Yeah!!

    Stopped working early on

I initially really liked this product, but the cup waterers stopped working. I would go in and notice they were dry when they should automatically refill. We didn't even have it a year when I started noticing an issue. Because I can't trust it I've had to take it out and just put a bowl in there for now.

    No nipple drinker replacement parts.

I like this waterer overall - have had it a couple of years. BUT. Yes I experienced some minor water leakage out of the nipple drinkers, but not much. Unfortunately this winter we had a couple of really cold days here in Alabama and despite the water heater, the water froze overnight. Which was fine, except the nipple drinkers cracked and the company doesn't have replacements. The replacement nipples with the tapered stems that go in the other drinkers are not long enough. When I contacted the company about when they might have some back in stock, they said they have no information on if/when they will ever have them again. So that's pretty frustrating, because I don't like using the cup waterers.

Hold enough water, keeps supply clean

Works great. Keeps water clean. You have to clean the cups regularly because they get dirty, but the water supply stays clean. Hold enough water to not have to refill everyday (obviously this depends on jow many birds you have).

    Works well

This works well, I just wish it was insulated. In AZ the water goes from cold to hot in a matter of an hour and ice and ice packs, frozen bottle melt just as fast. But it is no fault of the waterer, it is not described as insulated. It is well made, durable and easy to maintain. The cups are a struggle so swapping to nipples to see if my fluffy butts will use them. The water that sits gets hot when its 115 degrees out so I have to drop an ice cube in the cups all day. But before it was summer, it was perfect.

    Very well built

At first I was not sure it would be worth the price but when I received it I was instantly reassured that I’d made the right choice. This is very well made, thick plastic. It is designed so that the cups can lift out to clean so you don’t have to dump or twist them, (genius design!) however the insert is very hard to remove. But that’s a small problem for me as I empty it every morning to refill so I just rinse it with the hose. I can see this lasting a very long time. Chicks seem to like it, it mostly keeps their water clean for them. Overall I would definitely recommend this product! It’s a bit pricey but worth every penny. Holds about two gallons, I hang mine from the wire sides of my pen but it can be wall mounted with the included plates if that’s better for your setup.
