Premium hemp bedding praised for exceptional absorbency and odor control. Customers said it's "super absorbent" and "eliminates odors" while lasting months with deep litter method. Works for chickens, ducks, guinea pigs, and hamsters. Most reviews note minimal dust, though some found it dusty. Concerns about price and occasional packaging damage.

Mixed with orchard grass hay this is great hamster bedding!

I won't be getting this again as it's not cost effective as just getting the $10 bag of aspen shavings from walmart but I really wanted to try this out for my dwarf and syrain hamsters! My dwarf has enjoyed burrowing in it and it's helped her to calm down some. My Syrian just kind of ignores it though but she's old so it makes sense. I do wish it really had more in it though. I was hoping it would be enough to fill at least 14 inches of bedding in both their cages but it's wasn't even enough for one but I made it work with more hay and paper bedding. I was a bit worried about it being dusty but it's not at all! My usual paper bedding is has much more dust! Only reason I give it 4 stars is the size amount! This bedding seems to be very versatil and can be used for loads of animals. Just be sure if you are getting this for a burrowing rodent you use orchard grass hay or meadow hay in between layers to safely support burrows! 😊

We have purchased hemp beddings for a few years for our coop. This is the 3rd brand we are trying and so far we prefer it greatly, it is much softer than the other brands, there is a bit more dust but this is not enough to make us want to switch back. Good absorbance too. We are using it for chicks to bantams to bigger chicken breeds. Best quality price. We highly recommend this hemp.

    Much better than pine shavings

This bedding has helped stop my chicken coop from smelling like a truck stop bathroom! It absorbs droppings really well under the roost, and I’m able to sift out clumps easily. Each time I clean out the coop, I dump the used bedding into the chicken yard. Living in the AZ desert, the ground is hard on their feet, and this gives them a softer surface while also putting the waste to good use.Way more effective than pine shavings and makes coop cleanup so much easier.

    Perfect .....EXCEPT for the price

These bedding is exactly as promised. I use a kitty litter scooper to clean our nesting boxes and it's very easy. The size of the individual pieces slips right through my scoop, leaving only the poo from my chickens. It's very soft on their feet, doesn't poke like straw does, and creates significantly LESS dust in the coop.My ONLY complaint is the price as it's quite a bit more expensive when compared to pine flakes and/or shavings.

    Beloved by Quail

Soft, small pieces that clump together. My birds love bathing in it. I have quail, and the tinier pieces are gentler on their little quail feets. The two bantam chicken chicks I spontaneously adopted also seem to enjoy cuddling in it, and I've noticed that since the two have deformities, there's less sores on the sides where they have mobility issues from this vs. wood chips. I will say, everyone confused it for food at first, but I think that's because I put it in around feeding time haha. Haven't cleaned it out yet but I use a shopvac and just vac all of it out so cleaning anything is pretty easy for me. I imagine it gets stuck less than hay or wood shavings in the tube.

Amazing Bedding for a Happy, Healthy Coop!

We recently switched to RentACoop Hemp Bedding after using sand for a while. While sand was easy to clean, the dust it created became a real issue for us and the chickens. Hemp bedding has been a breath of fresh air—literally! It's super absorbent, and the coop stays dry and fresh for much longer than it did with sand. The odor control is fantastic, too, which means no more frequent cleanings to keep the smell down. One of the best parts is that this product was one of the more reasonably priced options we found. Despite the great quality, it’s affordable, which is a huge plus! The hemp fibers are also smaller in size, making it surprisingly easy to clean with a litter scoop—just as easy as sand, but without all the dust. The bedding is soft and natural, and my chickens seem to love scratching around in it. I also appreciate how eco-friendly it is—it's fully compostable and breaks down perfectly, which has been great for our garden too!Switching to RentACoop Hemp Bedding was the best decision. It’s dust-free, easy to maintain, and keeps the coop fresher for longer. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a cleaner, healthier coop at a reasonable price!

Too dusty but effective odor control

I’ve always used pine shavings with baby chicks, but it gets smelly so quickly, so I tried this as something new. The odor control with the hemp is really great. I currently have eight 5-week-old chicks in the brooder and I only have to change the bedding every 6-7 days for the smell. It is soft bedding and seems safe (I’ve been using it for 3 weeks), and you do get a lot of bedding that goes a long way. But the DUST is crazy. It’s way worse than the pine shavings. Because of the high cost of the hemp, combined with the incredible amount of dust, I probably won’t buy it again. I’ll use shavings and change out bedding more often.

    Chicks dig it!

My chicks love it! First time raising chicks, and I started out with another brand of natural hemp bedding from the pet store because it came in a smaller bag and I wasn't sure how much I would need (turns out you need a lot and will go through it fast lol). The other pet bedding was ok, my little baby chicks dug around in it, I thought it was fine. But once I ran through the bag and replaced it with the RentACoop Extra-soft premium hemp Bedding the difference was obvious. As soon as I returned my chicks to the brooder they literally started nesting in it. Not just digging but nuzzling themselves into it like happy little hens in training. It was so cute and I felt so bad for not providing them with the good stuff from the start. It absolutely does feel softer, and functions better as "litter" in terms of covering their little droppings too. Highly recommend!

The best chicken litter I've found so far

The product is expensive, but when I calculate how long I have heard it will last compared to pine shavings or chopped straw, the price is just about the same since the hemp does not need changing as frequently. I have been using it for about 3 months now, others have used it for a year with the original litter in place. So far, there is zero smell after 3 months of use by 10 chickens who are in the coop at least part of every day at this time of year. No ammonia smell accumulates and it stays dry even though my coop is on soil and we have had lots of rain. With other litters, I've had to add products such as sweet PDZ in order to keep odor under control. So far, I have added nothing to the hemp and don't need to. The droppings dry out right away.I like that it stays put and does not fly around getting into the feeders and waterers. Nor does it migrate into the dust bath area. My chickens seem to like it just fine too. I have 3 large bags of the product on an 8'x12' area of my coop (The rest is sand under the roost bars and a large sand area for dust bathing). I may add a 4th bag eventually because I like the litter to be deep but there does not seem to be any need at present.I hope that as more hemp is grown in the US that the price will come down, but if it does indeed last a year or more, I'm happy with that!UPDATE AFTER 11 MONTHS: The original hemp bedding is still in the coop. I added another bag and it's all still in good shape. No odor, continues to stay dry despite some very rainy weather. I do clean up obvious droppings at the end of each day, but there is plenty more absorbed into the litter. I am buying a couple more bags because it's been in place a year and I like litter to be fresh, but will add them on top of the old litter which there is no reason to discard.

Great Product & Customer Service, But Expensive for Quantity

I've now purchased this item twice. The 1st purchase on 4-18-18 was when the hemp was packaged by weight, & I got the 33lb bag for $59.99. I purchased another 33lb pkg on 5-6-18, but was shipped 4 bags of the "8lb" hemp. Upon further inspection, the UPS shipping label stated the weight as 20lbs & that's what the total weight actually was on my scale. After contacting the seller & explaining, they were very prompt addressing & rectifying the situation; I was sent another 3 bags of the "8lb" hemp. I'm now ready to order again & see the packaging has changed from weight to volume. The biggest available bag is listed at 300L for the same $59.99, but the details state shipping weight as 30lbs. Although I'm still satisfied with the performance of the hemp & their customer service, 3 pounds is quite a bit of product loss for the same $59.99, especially with bulk distributors offering it at a much lower cost.I am pleased with the odor control & longevity as bedding for my skinny pigs (basically hairless guinea pigs). The texture is great, too, as I was afraid it might be too rough for their skin & feet. The aroma is much less offensive than several other bedding types I've used in the past, particularly pine, & NO dust. I also used it in my chick brooder. It worked well but didn't last very long, although I did have more chicks than usual this year. After 2+ months I've only had to do one complete change of 3 cages for my skinnies with several "kitchen container" changes (I fill their kitchen container about 2" & the pan is 5'"x 8" roughly); the sows' cages are 28" x 56", & boar's is approx 24" x 36".TOP Mfg: Thank you for offering this bedding alternative, but please consider price adjustment & bulk options as the market dictates?

    Clean coop

It's very absorbent, reduces odor and it's not as cumbersome to clean out of the coop and put new hemp down.

    Wayyyy better than pine

Zero dust, amazing texture, no obnoxious smell! Worth the price! This bedding reminds me of cat litter because the waste attaches to it after about 2 days. Made spot cleaning easy!

Absorbent, low dust, and free shipping? Great

I’m really impressed with this chicken bedding. It's low dust so thats a huge win, it keeps the coop cleaner and the air so much nicer for the chickens. The free shipping is honestly amazing too. If you buy directly from the company’s website, the shipping alone is almost the same price as the product, so getting it here feels like a steal. You also get way more than you expect. It’s super compacted, so once you open it up, it fluffs out into a surprisingly large amount of bedding. It’s very absorbent and my chickens actually enjoy pecking at it from time to time. Overall, great value and great quality. Highly recommend!

Perfect Bedding for a Clean, Odor-Free Coop!

As a first-time chicken owner, I wanted to ensure my coop was as clean and comfortable as possible for my flock, and this premium hemp bedding has met my expectations so far!The first thing I noticed was how absorbent it is—moisture is not an issue, and odors are practically nonexistent. Even after a few weeks of use, the coop stays fresh with the deep litter method, which makes my chores much easier to manage in winter. The quality is excellent. I love that it’s eco-friendly, pesticide-free, and produces minimal dust. It feels good knowing I’m providing a safe, healthy environment for my chickens while also choosing a sustainable product that will eventually make great compost for my garden.Yes, it’s a bit pricier than some alternatives, but the longevity more than makes up for it. A little goes a long way, and I can tell this bale will last me for quite some time.Overall, I’m thrilled with this purchase and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a superior bedding solution.

    Great for chicken coop!

We have been using this bedding after a switch from straw and it’s been great. It’s a good appearance and much less dust. You get a good amount of it and it lasts a while. It controls the odor well too.
