I literally just put it together myself & set it out for my chickens. Seems VERY STURDY & I LOVE the updated design. Along with that, it seems the ports have a piece that you can slide to prevent rodents from getting to the food BUT now the opening for the food seems a bit small. I will probably be switching out the ports, but thats just my preference. They won’t be able to access the feed at the very bottom bc the hole is so small. Other than that, its awesome!!I think I’ll eventually look into getting the bigger one for when I vacation out. I was able to add about 4 big scoops (scoop in the pictures) of feed in there & it wasn’t heavy at all when moving it.
Easy to put together, sturdy. Chickens took to it right away. I may need to place it on blocks, the max height is a bit short for my girls. Misters are directly above it and so far no water or moisture inside. Will update after a few months on how it holds up with AZ weather. So far, quite happy food is not wet anymore due to misters.Update 8-2-25: I had to go up to the 65lb version. My RIR’s and ISA’s had no issues but my big haired/headed Polish ladies needed the bigger port size vs the medium ports on the smaller version. Still great, and they ran right to the bigger one the second I put it in the run. Happy ladies. The 15lb version would have been fine if I didn’t have polish in my flock. Adding pictures of the bigger version there is real pictures of both sizes of the new version vs the old one in all the reviews. Also including a side by side of both sizes for the visual folks to compare for space purposes.
I like the large capacity which holds our full 50 lb bag of feed for our adult chickens. I read the reviews and followed the recommendations to adhere the feeder to cinder blocks using bungee cords. I just need to switch out one longer bungee for a shorter one. After two weeks of use I did notice the corners of the lid had all separated. I used a waterproof duct tape as others have done and I think it solves the problem. Would recommend a better weld or solder on those joints to earn a 5 star rating. We fill the feeder on site we don’t carry it to the coop.
Guineas waste a LOT of feed. They toss it around like they pay their own bills, and it gets trampled into the mud to mold. Gross. My muppets had a successful hatch last year (only because I interfered on every level; parenting isn't really their bag), and with everything the way it is, wasting even more extravagantly expensive feed wasn't something I was looking forward to. While looking into low-waste PVC chicken feeders I found this one. I love it. It holds more than a 50lb bag (mine get a mix, so this is handy), the food stays clean, and waste is almost nothing. Of course, they're guineas, new = bad, so they had to be suspicious of it for a few days but they knew their food was in there and figured it out. I'm expanding the flock this spring with a second coop and will purchase another.
Theory doesn’t match practice. Holds 65 pounds would be great but it didn’t feed pellets very well. The internal diverters didn’t allow the feed to dispense readily and pellets would become jammed.It is advertised as no waste referring to chickens wasting the feed; however, being of metal construction the condensation caused the feed to mold in the bottom corners before 1/3 of the feed had been used up. The large capacity therefore wasn’t a benefit. I noticed the moldy pellets in the corners when I dumped the feed to return the feeder.The openings were small and the hens had no problems getting their heads in but I wonder about the rooster. The amount of feed used over a period of 2 weeks did not match the amount a flock of 6 chickens should have eaten during that period.It may possibly work better with the crumbles but it did not specify in the ad which type of feed the feeder would accommodate. Regardless, the fact that metal condensates in heat and cold, I doubt the chickens could eat 65 lbs of crumbles before the condensation would cause the feed to mold.I returned this item. Metal is durable but in this case, plastic or a different housing that doesn’t condensate might be required for a large capacity feeder.
Have had for about a year and holds up well. Gets some moisture in the corners, but nothing too concerning. I’ve seen some newer design locks the lid down, which is a smart upgrade. As it sits on the group it is possible it could be knocked over and lose a lot of feed.Would buy from the brand with confidence. It was SUPER EASY to assemble.
Easy to assemble, and all parts feel quality. Only problem is that pellets will not automatically fall like they should, so every day I have to shake the container to allow more food to fall into the cups where the birds can actually eat. I thought this would be a good way to reduce waste, but I didn't want it to starve my birds!
This is my second feeder, the first one is so good I decided to use two. Well built and I love putting an entire bag in once a week. I have used many feeders and this has been the best one. I have had the first one for 6 months I am interested in if it last. It should since it is made of galvanized steel and plastic and certainly looks durable enough. The plastic ones I had in the past lased about 5 years then the plastic became too brittle.
We have 12 chickens. Love the large capacity and the ability to keep feed dry. Wish there were carrying handles on the sides as it’s awkward to move. Also wish the top was angled to discourage the girls from jumping up onto it. But overall happy with the purchase.
We love this feeder and we've had this for almost two years with little problems other than some rusting. I REALLY wish it had port covers so that rodents can't get in and a base to keep it raised off the ground. WARNING: Be careful when this becomes almost empty. We had one of our hens neck snapped because the feeder didn't have weight in it.
I bought this to replace the bowls I had been using to feed the girls. I like the 6 ports and the lid, especially since it is winter and I have to feed them in the coop now. It took them awhile to figure out that this meant food but once they did they use it well. It was very easy to assemble as the only thing to do was put in the white pieces. I filled the feeder once it was in place as I don't think it would handle being carried with 65 pounds of feed in it. A great purchase for us!
First I would like to say that the feeder is great. It keeps the feed dry and the chickens do not waste it at all. I was completely thrilled with it and it paid for itself quickly. I ended up buying two more and everything was fine. I got a delivery of day old chicks and after two months I turned them loose in the big pen with the adults. Recently I noticed that four of my chicks were missing and thought that a predator had entered the pen and taken them. After three days of them being missing I opened the feeders to check to see if I needed to add feed and in one of the feeders were the four missing chicks. They had somehow gone through the red tube and ended up trapped. Three were alive and one was dead. The three seem like they are going to be OK but I know it was a terrible experience for them. I just want people to know that these feeders are for adult chickens only.
Feeder arrived bent and the lid wouldn't fit because the corner were out of square from shipping damage.A 2x4 and a deadblow mallet fixed the issue in about 5 minutes. On our farm things break, what makes me mad is when they can't be fixed. The tin and rivets were tough enough to take the damage and the repair, so thumbs up on quality materials.Getting the chickens to use it has been more challenging. I have adjusted the height per the instructions and left pellets on the lip of the feeder holes but they refuse to put their heads in there. Anyone have some tips?
I would totally give this product 5 stars but the reason for the one star off is the shipping and for the portal covers. There is no protection or wrap and the product arrived dented the first time I ordered it. I had to wait for a replacement, which wasn't a big deal, except the replacement was dented also. But unlike the first one, this one I was still able to close the lid. (The exchange process was easy).Having said that - as a feeder, I like it. My chickens figured it out pretty quickly. I was confused as to how the squirrels and birds would not enter into the tubes and eat the food. I emailed customer service feeling like I missed something? Apparently, there are these "portal covers" that will cover the opening of the port. The problem is that you manually put them into the portal and they are hella easy to lose since they are not attached. These are on back order and there is nothing in the verbiage that says they sell them so again, that's why I took off a star. I think they should mention that they have those portal covers so you're not scratching you head wondering if they forgot something?The feeder prevents the chickens from spilling food and attracting birds, squirrels etc. I like that.We had a. big rain storm last night and the chicken food stayed dry.The only thing that has happened is that a raccoon figured out how to take the lid off?So to recap: as a feeder - 5 stars. Clean, dry, easy to get chickens to eat from it and it holds a lot of feed.Shipping and product information: could use some help.
I have 12 chickens and they love this feeder very much. They're all able to share the 6 feeding ports quick easily. It can hold a 50lb bag of feed without issue. It's really sturdy and weather proof - the feed is always dry! They all got the hang of using it pretty quickly. I recommend putting a bit of feed on the lip of the ports so that your chickens can see their food and will want to go investigate. I only did this a couple times the first day to make sure they'd all seen it. On day two they were all using it without issue! I propped mine up on a couple bricks because it was too low on the ground. Just make sure you don't do it too high so that the chickens can stick their head it. The lid is also very easy to hose off when the chickens decide to use it as a toilet.
I feed fines (powdered feed) to my birds, with this feeder I can not fill it full as it won’t naturally fall to the bottom I have to go and push my feed down. That being said so far this is the most user friendly feeder for the style feed I use. I like that it stays clean and they do not waste the feed as they have with several other styles I’ve tried. Took the girls awhile before they figured out sticking their heads into the holes for feed. I keep it in a barn so I don’t have the additional rain guards on it. I have not noticed any sign of rodents getting into the feeder either which is a huge plus. I set mine on a cinder block and just have standard size birds and they seem to all be able to reach in and eat without problems.
There is an avian disease going around wild birds in my area and the wild birds are ALWAYS eating out of the chicken feeder. (it also was costing me a fortune to feed both the chickens and the wild birds) I was concerned about my chickens getting sick, so I purchased one of these to discourage the wild birds, it seems to be working. In order to get my chickens to understand how to use it, I sprinkled some meal worms around it, just inside the openings and down into the feed inside. Once one chicken gets it, the rest will follow suit. It needs to be set on a cinderblock or something else of equal height. I have it protected from heavy winds, we've had a couple good rainstorms since I installed it, and the food has stayed dry. Worth the money in my opinion.
