RentACoop Roll-Out Reversible Chicken Nesting Box Suite – 3 compartment

I am a product engineer so you can imagine that I spent a lot of time comparing my options before finally making my decisions. Overall I think I made the right one.Initial impression were favorable with the presentation, packaging and part quality. All metal components are laser cut and bent on CNC.Injection molded parts seem durable and fit together well. One complaint I read about in the comments was that the lid latch only worked on one of the three boxes. I found this to be the case as well because they are nested inside of each other for shipping. Two of the three are squished in the third causing deformation. Plastic has a memory and will hold that deformed position. Not a design issue, but definitely a packaging issuesHoles line up well on all the metal parts. But the wrong fasteners were provided. My kit came with stainless pan head screws that would chew up the pilot holes and ultimately would not thread tight to a fastened position. Some #8 self tapping screws from the hardware store were a quick fix.Just a tip to those conplaining about the plastic inserts being hard to get in. Try positioning them prior to tightening the screws down all the way.I have yet to ask the chickens their opinion but I feel like it is a good product especially for $160.A simple fastener change and packaging fix will solve a majority of the issues folks are havingLastly, I would really like to see a fold up perch bar. Many of us chicken people like locking the birds out at night. I made some modifications neet my needs

I bought this for my birds, thinking it would be more comfortable for them and easier to collect eggs. Come to find out it is actually to small and not a good comfortable at all for the birds this product will rip the feathers out of the bird back and stomachI recommend do not to buy.

I wish I could return this, I regret buying this a lot. I have had it over 6 months and it is not the right fit for my coop at all. The hole you have to cut if you want to collect eggs from outside is ridiculous and allows for mice and weather to get into the coupes. The bottom of the egg trays are slotted and allows way too much light to where my chickens do not feel safe, laying their eggs. I ended up taping with dark black tape, even the lids, and that made them lay in it more. I really wish the bar in the front would lift up to block chickens from sleeping on it like a roost. The edges are very sharp and I ended up cutting myself on assembly so I put foam piping I had from an art project to prevent cut hens. The way the bottom is designed you really can’t put a nesting mat of any kind it there because the eggs will either not roll or get stuck on the exit and I have to go inside to collect. The laying trays slid out for easy cleaning but it really isn’t because the box does not line up right so the center one is very difficult to get in once taken out so I have given up cleaning that one completely. Also the lids from the collecting box does not latch shut like they should, only one functions at all I would recommend looking at a different brand. I have 11 hens and they only use one box. Screws are a little hard to get through the sheet metal. You need to use power tools for sure.

Absolutely love this!!! No more poopy eggs and my hens started using it right away. Not terribly hard to put together

Introduced new chickens to this nesting box. Some chickens instantly figured it out, others needed to be physically put in the box once nesting behavior was observed. All of chickens are now using it after the initial training. There is no info included on how to get chickens to use it. Keeps chickens from pecking and eating eggs, as long as you dont allow too much nesting material to build up in the egg chute.

I really like the roll-out nesting box it saves so many eggs not all of them. My girls still are able to get one or two eggs but most eggs are saved. It did take a week or two to get the hens to use it but now all of them use it the box. I do wish it would save all the eggs but i am sill happy with it. I also love that it has 3 places for the hens i have tried doing a share box but the more dominant hens would not let other hens share with them this fixed that issue. daddy calm down you’re crazy girl

It seems to work well, but our chickens have not completely adapted to it yet. They were used to nesting in straw on the floor when we bought the house, so it's an adjustment, and they are learning. We like the item, but the documentation leaves a lot to be (mis-)interpreted, and we had to undo and redo several things that were not clear in the instructions.

These metal nesting boxes are surprisingly high-quality. However, the assembly process was a bit challenging due to the lack of detailed instructions. I also feel that the price is a bit steep considering the absence of a bottom curtain, which would keep the eggs out of sight from the chickens.

This is my favorite brand for chicken accessories. I have feeders and waterers, all great quality. This nestbox is no different. Easy to put together and great quality materials, I even got a free set of cute curtains. Hanging in my coop was a cinch. Would definitely recommend this product and the company.

Assembly wasn’t as difficult as others have said. However, my boxes don’t sit flat inside, they kinda rock. So, the eggs don’t always roll down. I tried calling several times with no answer or call back. After a few emails I got a response that they would look into it, but am still waiting on a response 4 weeks later. My chickens like it but my Wyandotte is too big to use it. Some of the lids latch and some don’t when they’re in place. The boxes have plenty of space for eggs, if only they would roll down.

Easy to install, easy to harvest, and the chickens took to itimmediately

I have called 4 times fpr product support and NOTHING! One of the lids to the egg compartments doesn't close properly and animals can get in. This is a huge issue and the company has yet to call me back or take care of this issue. Very disappointed.

Nesting box space appears to be too small of space . Chickens will not use it. No issues with putting together.

Really sturdy and stable. Heavy duty. The chickens already love it

Good product overall but can improve on some things.Latches on egg pan do not latch very good….2 of the 3 do not latch tightly on mine. Perch to get into nesting box is stationary and I prefer one that can be pulled up at night so chickens don’t roost on it. Screws that come with unit are very cheap and strip out easily.

Very easy installation. Came well packaged. Had to do a little thinking when it came to the directions but they were fine. Chickens were not sure at first of the red flap coming down once they got used to it they’re laying just fine up in the boxes. Easy to access eggs.

Do not buy if you plan to put the nest box on the outside. The egg cover portion is made of a plastic material that would not stand up to any animal especially a raccoon. There are no “hinges” on the cover, just plastic. I worry that an animal could chew his way into the coop. It’s probably fine if the nest boxes are inside the coop.

Solid and strong. Sharp edges to watch for while assembling. Easy to drill into wall when mounting.
