RentACoop Little Red Barn Chick Brooder Set

Easy set up and very convenient! Only things I will say is the feeder/waterer can only have one chick at a time so I ended up purchasing a different feeder/waterer to reduce conflict. The heating plate it great but not warm enough for newborn chicks, I also needed to purchase a heating lamp to use for the first couple weeks. Also, 8 chicks in here would be a stretch. I have 7 and I’m getting concerned they will outgrow this brooder before they’re ready to be outside.

I don’t hate it. I love the idea of it. The whole set up is very convenient. I got it because I kept hatching chicks and the tote just wasn’t cutting it. I thought the heat plate would be safer… all five lavender Orpingtons ended up passing away. I think some of it was user error I didn’t notice one of the watering cups that came with it was for collecting water after they pecked the tip. My chicks were not used to pecking the tip. They were used to the watering cup. So pay attention lol don’t be me. But after those two passed I quickly checked everything and all seemed well. But then I found them dead under the heat plate. It was high enough for them to get out. Could be user error but just be careful. Again I love the set up and convenance. And when done you literally just fold it up. But the other main reason to order is to keep chicks and house safe and stay away from heat light and it seemed like it did not work the best for me.

I definitely like it. It was easy to set up and I like that I can pack it flat when I’m done. The only part that stinks but this is my brooder is the clean up. Once you stop using liners it is hard to get in there to change up the shavings. I wish it had a “drawer” to just pull out and dump them and then put it back. Other than that it is great.

Love this little coop for my new baby chicks so much! Its easy to set up and keep clean!

Bought this for our library events to take our baby peeps along. Definitely bigger then what I was expecting but it holds a decent amount of peeps. Super easy to put together too. Easy to clean as well, which that is always a plus when raising peeps

Love this broader! Use it for the babies and when I need to separate an injured chicken. Only thing that I don’t like is the straw pad it comes with, will never use those again. Kept having babies die when a couple hours ago they were fine. Turns out they would eat the pad and it would kill them right away. I’ll be using the puppy pads from now on. I lost 4 baby chicks and 4 Guinea Keats before I found the culprit. I’m so mad at myself.

This bundle has all the essentials for getting started with chicks. The brooder is sturdy and spacious and the brooder plate is easy to use. A turnkey setup for new chicken owners. It also doubles as a chicken hospital, in the event that one of your grown chickens needs to be separated to recoup. Rent a coop is a trusted brand for our family and their products are built to last.

I loved the bigger version so much, I ordered the small one for a new batch of chicks. Unfortunately, not all of the pieces arrived for this bundle. Missing was the jute liner. This was advertised to be included. Same with the waterer. Inconsistent with order fulfillment.

The brooder seems to be well built and was easy to assemble. The jute pad, however, fell apart and ended up sticking to the chicks feet. We had to soak their feet in water to get the material off. The description indicates that a 4 pack will last 5 to 6 weeks. With 4 chicks, it needed to be replaced the second day due to the smell. We only used the one provided with the brooder and returned the 4 pack we purchased at the same time.

Great coop. The waterer that came with leaked so was unusable. Feeder only allows one chick to feed at a time causing behavior issues. Badly designed accessories are why this only gets 3 stars. Used the coop successfully to raise 4 chicks after replace waterer and feeder.

This kit seems great but once you unpack everything, you’ll realize you just wasted a bunch of money on very basic things you could’ve pieced together at home or bought cheaper at your local feed store. The popup structure is cheaply made and not ideal for the food/water feeders that are supplied. The feeder and waterer are also as basic as it gets and don’t function great. Overall, I wish we would’ve saved the money and skipped this. It’s definitely not worth the money, at all.

Everything you need to provide a safe environment for chicks indoors where there are no small children or pets. I add this because the corrugated plastic would not stop a mishap. It is a very lightweight material but waterproof & stronger than cardboard but still is a little bendy. Easy to assemble. The heat plate is a real hit with the chicks & I love the gentle heat’s safety. They are fascinated with the window view. I got a small roost bar & they spend a lot of time on that gazing out of the window. The box is ventilated so I added the feather drape available separately by the brand for light filtering & warmth enhancement. They adored the mama hen’s wig effect of it, too. I find them situated so the feathers drape over them. I added the feeder & waterer. They like the waterer but with only one port on the feeder they pass, preferring to eat together from the small plastic trough style chick feeder.
The lid keeps the flight trials from becoming an escape. Also the brooder would be great as a chicken kennel for a visit to the vet or for any isolation for healing. The included jute pad is a nice cushion & insulation layer. I keep it rapped in puppy pee pads under a light shavings bedding. I really love the brooder & my chicks are very happy birds in it. Follow-up: Not large enough for my 4 after 4 weeks. Also they can fly out over the brooder when you open it by the 4th week. So be prepared! They are so energetic that I had to add a run for them to be busy in. I used a light wire archway attached over a garden wood slat walkway so they can still see out of their brooder when inside. My sunroom is a chick jungle gym for now with potted herbs to explore lining the way & a dust bath pan at the end of their run. Their warmer plate is at its highest now. They’ll be making outdoor forays soon. The brooder has been a successful aid for my initial chick rearing project.

I love how simple this is and easy to use, so much easier raising this batch of chicks. A little costly, my chicks didn’t drink enough when using the nipple-style watering attachment but I had an additional drinker on hand they used. The only down side is the capacity, which thankfully already having chickens, I wasn’t looking to raise too many more at a time, but not ideal for first timers looking to raise more than 4 at a time without spending a whole lot on a kit. I like that the plastic material is easy enough to cut with a box cutter if alterations are needed.

This is a well made brooder. I suggest you get the one with the food, watered, and heat plate. It’s really convenient to have these because it was made for it and all works perfectly. I’ve never bought anything like this, I normally just use whatever I have around the house and this is a game changer. First time I have used a heat plate and NEVER going back. Heat lamps are super dangerous, expensive and use sooo much electric. Even if you don’t get this brooded, get a heat plate. If you do get this you won’t be disappointed!

The concept of this barn is outstanding, with several foreseen uses. The only downside is the material it was made with. The material is like a corregated plastic, similar to coated cardboard. I would gladly have paid more for a sturdier design.

This is an amazing product, but it is a little bit small. It does come with a lot of things for a starter brooder that will allow you to use for a little while with only a few chicks, perfect if you are a beginner, this is a great way to start because it gives you everything you need all in one package.

This brooder kit was great. We bought 2 as I had more chicks hatch than expected and was able to tape the slider doors open and tops together to keep the 2 as one big brooder on top of a card table. I kept 9 chicks in there til feathered out. I had to move the chicks outside to an enclosed area as they got older for movement/space and foraging as weather permitted and just used the brooders for the chicks to sleep in. That being said, it was difficult to clean as the bedding would get trapped in the folds of the bottom. The hanging notches for the food and water didn't go up high enough in my opinion and had to add another feeder bowl. The notches were too low and the chicks kicked out the bedding making a mess. All in all, it worked out and I would use again, but it was a lot more work than intended.

Overall, it has potential but I think it needs some tweaks to the design to make it a perfect brooder. Here are my issues with it:
1. The track for the sliding window is a "u" shape, so bedding gets trapped in there and then the doors don't come together.
2. The window opening is positioned too low that the chicks can pretty much just step right out of the brooder at a day old.
3. The holes on the sides for the waterer and feeder are too low and don't go up all the way. It's impossible to use the holes that are low to hold the waterers and feeders. On day 1, I was already using the 2nd to the top hole and after a week, I moved it up to the top hole. I'll have to figure out a way to make more holes higher as the chicks grow. Also, since the holes are so low, the chicks kick out lots of bedding to the outside.
4. The feeder is not practical for multiple chicks. They all want to eat at the same time and only 1 can stick their head in the opening at a time. The feeder should be trough style. I'm not using that feeder for my 4 chicks, I bought a trough style feeder and placed it in there.
Here are the things I like:
1. It's light and easy to move around.
2. It's very easy to clean. I just use a hand broom and dustpan to remove at the soiled bedding.
3. It's a great size for 4 chicks and it'll work great as a chicken hospital.
4. It's easy to access the chicks either through the lid or the window.
5. It's a great price for what you get.
6. It folds up flat for storage.

EDIT: The company contact me and gave me several options to reach a satisfactory resolution to the issue.
Their customer service is truly amazing.
The barn itself is made from a sturdy plasticized cardboard. It should be fine for baby chicks. However, I specifically bought this item because the heater, feeder and waterer were included but when I got the package they were not inside. Amazon's solution was to return the item for a refund. But by the time you pay for shipping, conversion rate, etc, returning the item is not worth the time or effort. I have written to the company and will update this review if a favourable outcome is achieved.

We never raised baby chicks in the winter, but coyotes left us with a senior rooster and 3 even-older hens. So I bought this. The "coop" is easily assembled. The top is secured with hook-and-loop closures, but not very sturdy. One of my cats jumped on it & it nearly collapsed on the chicks. The feeder seemed to have 2 settings: dump and stuck - either the Food flowed until a pile stopped the flow or none would come out at all. The waterer was even more useless. The chicks took to the nipple dispenser readily, but so much water also came out that the floor of coop was soaked. So I switched to the alternate dispenser, and that leaked like a sieve. Finally, the brooder heater is excellent. It has an anti-roost top on it so the chickens won't roosr/poop on the heater. The legs are much easier to adjust to make the heater taller, unlike another popular brand. In summary, the coop was great & so is the brooder heater, but the feeder and waterer, not so much. By the way, I had 8 Mille Fleur bantams in there for about 4 weeks. It was a good idea to purchase it, and the price was reasonable.

Very simple to set up. Nice and sturdy, good quality for all the components. Allows you to grow the feeder and water with your chickens. Easy to clean, expect to reuse for many clutches. Chickens are very happy.

Works as advertised. Lightweight, portable, and the warmer is a nice addition. That said its100% corrugated pastic and acrylic. I’m not certain how well it’s going to hold up over time after multiple takedown and set ups.

A bit expensive but make sure everything works I had to purchase a new water container on the fly because mind was not working so that’s another $ 14 bucks but still very nice to have and remember don’t use small flake shavings unless you want a bunch of constipated babies this was a pretty dangerous situation, so just make sure you’re shavings are not the small flake they have to be probably medium or large and they get stuck in their butts and they don’t come out. You have to give them a little Epson salt sits bass.
