I was afraid of it at first because the plate felt pretty hot, but so long it's at an appropriate height they seem to love it. Felt more comfy after reading the instructions :)

I don’t like heat lamps. I was constantly afraid of fire hazards and the temperatures were fluctuating all the time with the bulbs. I lost 3 new chicks due to over heating bulbs. Hesitant to spend the money on this but gave it a shot. This was easy to set up, but there’s no way to tell what temperature it is once it is turned on. You have to rely on the chicks to tell you whether or not it’s working correctly. My four day old chicks are in my picture and they are showing that yes it was working correctly because they are quiet and cuddling all up against it. I’d say it would fit about 9 chicks comfortably. I can adjust it pretty easily. It came with a cone on top so they don’t roost and poop all over the top. I hope the plate doesn’t overheat, but all I can do is wait-and-see so far I like it a lot. Edit: I did end up using this in addition to a heat lamp, I had to put my heat lamp back in and use this as well. I think this is a great product, but I don’t think it can be used as a standalone. After 24 hours, I noticed my chicks still needed additional heat around the food source as I was using this in the garage. So I did end up adding the heat lamp back in. I just made additional precautions and the heat lamp is now used as a secondary source. I will say the chick are a lot happier, with the heat plate as the primary source for sleeping

In all honesty, this item has both good and bad points to consider. It's pretty much a trade-off! I purchased the smallest size tray because my flock is small, only 8 baby chicks. They spent their first 3 weeks in a cage inside my house, not in a coop so they were in a climate controlled environment. At first this tray was the perfect size. They all fit comfortably underneath it and it worked well. Within a week, they had grown enough, some could only fit parts of their body under the tray. The heating part always felt rather hot to me and I was constantly raising and adjusting the legs. By the 3rd week, the chicks wouldn't sleep under it at all and we moved them to the coop. It was a big adjustment. The nights here are still chilly and every time I checked on them, they were all jostling to get under the tray. Some were shaking from the cold and the tray just wasn't big enough to accomodate them all. Currently we're using the old heat lamp and that does the trick. They all have the warmth they need. If you're determined to buy this heating tray, I would suggest buying the biggest size you can afford. Chicks are guaranteed to grow! Expect to raise the adjustment on the legs quite frequently to fit the needs and temperature of your situation. The tee-pee top is a must if you want to save yourself extra work. Otherwise the chicks sit and poop all over the top and it's a hot mess! Looking back, the tray made the first week a breeze but after that, it's value diminished. For a large flock of baby chicks, I wouldn't recommend this tray at all. A pecking order is established early among every flock, even wth young chicks and the lower ranking chicks are pushed out beneath the tray while dominant chicks enjoy the heat. Once a chick gets chilled, there's a good chance it could become sickly and die. We were lucky to have a back-up, a heat lamp, otherwise I don't think all of my small flock would've made it. Sometimes you just can't build a better mousetrap!

This is amazing! No fire risk while sleeping, out, awake and chicks love it! I love it more then eco glow because you can adjust it any which way. I like 1front side higher with both back lower like an askew lean-to to get chicks who originally spent a week in a heat light brooder and then I brought them home to go under this rent a coop plate brooder. They picked it up immediately due to their instinct to squish under a hot “hen”’s butt. In lieu of a broody hen or 250watt red light, there is No fire risk! There’s even an accessory to temp control it. I just used a reptile thermometer underneath. It was so adjustable. No annoying issues with changing levels to adjust for temp even while chicks were underneath! They love it, they love it so much they heat up and the. Hop atop to congregate in a chick party like it’s a pontoon boat. So there’s a cone you can get to fit atop. I recommend this after 1 week of age because step 1 is chick party boat, yep 2 is they want to flappy-launch themselves out of the brooder and poop all over it. So get the red cone that Fits perfectly on the ‘rent a coop heating plate for chicks’
I say “Hurray for the cone!” [Pssst —->the chicks say “boooooo” to cone] because the cone keeps them safely sliding off their favorite roost so they can’t high-jump to vault their flappy dinosaur selfs out of the brooder.
I loved seeing this company was a small farm that patented their version of this plate. Not a fan of big corporate death cults so yay for the small business called “rent a coop”! I’m so happy that I’ve recommended to others already after 1 week. 5stars! My chick thinks she’s in the egg still, she’s so cozy after being underneath she is egg napping on top before I ruin her fun with the cone of course!

This year I did not have to worry about temperature and having to steadily decrease it as the chicks aged. Not having a light on all the time let the chicks sleep at night. The red roof was great as the chicks still tried to climb on it, but they just slid right back down.

Works perfectly!

Now I need to see if I can find the cone to buy separately to add to this as I never got mine. Which is a bummer because now I’ve got chick poop all over the top of it other than that the plate does work

Kept my little chicks perfectly warm through a brutal winter. Easy to clean. The height adjustment is easy to use, and great as the chickens grew. The chickens would play and jump and roost on it and it never lost the height setting. Super quiet.

Worked as expected. The chicks went right to it. We never had any issue with them. They clean easily.

Quality is there and it works well. I assembled it and plugged it in and it immediately started heating. I love that it is easy to make taller as your chicks grow. The angled top keeps chicks from perching on top of it.

This product worked as stated. Adjustable heights grew with the chick's.

The fact that it’s hight adjustable is fantastic! Easy to use and won’t burn the house down like a lightbulb can… worked like a charm.

Rent A Coop’s heating plate worked well with my clutch of chicks. Easy to assemble. Easy to adjust the height as your chicks grow. The temperature was perfect. Totally suggest to buy the roosting cone. I ended up purchasing one as the poop on top of the plate was no joke.

I have raised 2 sets of day old chicks under this now. The first set went horribly wrong but it could have been just me even though I have raised a lot of chickens from incubator to coop over the years. First let me say why I purchased this -- it seems safer than old school heat lamps I have always used and would use less electricity. This matters because I normally raise new chicks from incubator to coop every month between february and about september/october - small batch meat/egg layers so i don't require a huge amount of freezer space. The first set of chicks under the heat plate I lost about 1/2 in the first week when 95 degrees is required. Maybe I didn't have it low enough. But what I ended up doing on the 2nd set of chicks is use a regular heat lamp for the first week in conjunction with the heat plate, then turned the heat lamp off the beginning of the 2nd week. I never lost any chicks out of that batch. In about 2 more weeks I will be starting a 3rd set of chicks and use that same process ... heat lamp for first week, heat plate for each week after. I'm just not sure the heat plate radiates enough to provide the baby chicks with the required heat that first week when temperatures are critical.....but after that it works fine. So just be cautious with day old baby chicks for their first week. Again, I am not sure I had the plate low enough when I had the problem.

My chicks loved these heat plates. They heated up nicely and kept their temperature very consistently. They raise up easily, allowing for two sides to be higher than one when they get bigger and need options. They’re 7 weeks now, no longer need the heat so we unplugged them, but they still love to scoot under the shelter of them. I just love these more than a heat lamp because it gives them that “sheltered” feeling of safety.

I bought this for the six chicks. I got this fall, but they very quickly outgrew it and I ended up getting a larger one. This one has been Repurposed and awesome for my sick hen who had to kept warm during these cool nights. I simply secured the cord and rested it on the floor at a 45° angle off a wall and she nestled right into it.

We are raising chicks for the first time and wanted to use a brooder plate instead of a heat lamp because of safety concerns. We chose this one because the brand is well-recognized and the added no-roost top meant we wouldn't need to worry about the chicks getting on top. Within a week, our chicks were already trying to get on top and slipping off, so it has already proven useful and effective!

There are enough 1/4" settings on all four legs to really adjust as you go. We have chicks that are 1.5 weeks apart, and it isn't an issue since we can set one side higher than the other.

The disadvantage is that it is harder to really know if it is hot enough for chicks - especially ones that arrive in the mail and are a lot more fragile. I noticed that they were spending a lot of time under the brooder plate and I was worried they weren't warm enough. Additionally, you can't see the chicks when they are under it, so if any are struggling, you have to lift it to check on them.

I added a plant heat mat underneath to add just a touch of heat the first week. I noticed the chicks were more active after so I do think that helped.

So easy to put together and it is solid! Not cheap and feels safe to leave with my new baby chicks. They are thriving after 10 days with this new brooding plate. Great product - highly recommend.

My chicks used this from the start and they stayed warm, happy and healthy. The biggest benefit in using this for me was peace of mind knowing that it was safe and not a fire hazard. They also liked to sit on top and use it as a roost which for me seemed like a side benefit. We just put press n seal wrap on top to keep clean and changed it daily. The plate we purchased is on the smaller side. I think it can technically be used with up to 10 chicks but I have 6 chicks who are larger breeds and I felt by the time they were 4 weeks or so they were really crowded. I definitely would go up to the next size plate if I had to do it over again.

I received the the rent a coop brooder plate for a week now and I’ve been satisfied with my purchase so far. As a first time chick raiser I was kind of nervous about getting a heat lamp mostly b/c I didn’t want to worry about a fire or the chicks overheating mostly b/c I set them up inside. I live in the CA desert area and it gets down to 29 F outside and and average of 55 F I door without A/C and a little cooler in the garage. The chicks have been well insulated their area well and provide sufficient bedding so they can use that for heat too. They’re about 2 weeks old so I don’t trust putting them outside in the garage yet but I’m the area that reaches around 55 F they’ve been thriving with the brooder plate. Peeping is minimal. At the age at which they are they brooder instructions recommend the plate being as low as possible and that is definitely true but I also get paranoid so I’ve sort of set it up at a slant so one side is a little higher than the other and it’s worked. They tend to prefer the taller side during day and the lower side at night to sleep. The plate gets sufficiently warm and you are able to touch it. I use it for 3 chick and I think they recommend around 10 I think for the 10x10 so keep that mind. I saw that they recommend the cone accessory which y’all should definitely get b/c it’s just keeps it clean and prevents the chicks from going crazy on it. Assembly was easy and they say allow one hour to heat up but definitely the more the better just so that it properly heats up the area where the plate is set up. Definitely shove them underneath to show them where the heat is or it takes them a while. At first I was worried about them overheating but as long as you set up the height properly then I wouldn’t worry about them not being able to regulate and I wouldn’t worry about burning b/c while it does get hot it’s not really hot to the touch. It really does feel like you were snuggled up with a nice warm blanket. Also the chicks will tell u how high they want it and you’ll find that the perfect height is when they’re able to lay underneath it. I don’t know about the comfort feather but the cone you should definitely get it just hasn’t been in my budget. Also I think it helps to insulate the heat better from the device if u prevent wind getting in the brooding area. But I think if u get the feathers it might help with that. Definetly recommend but I’ll update how it goes once I put them in the garage once the chicks are around 4 -5 weeks old but I don’t know yet.
