RentACoop 1 Gallon High Rise Chicken Waterer with 2 Auto-Fill Cups, Horizontal Nipples

Do not use this for very young chicks. I tried it with five-day-old baby chickens, and it was a disaster. The chicks climbed on the cups, the water drained out, and multiple chicks got soaked. I spent most of the night trying to save them. Three chicks died. In my opinion, this is a very poor and unsafe design for baby chicks.

I have purchased other larger waterers with automatic filling cups and was disappointed- but this product was perfect!
I didn’t want my hens going all night without water access here in the Texas Summer, so I actually put it inside their small henhouse, then used pvc to create an easy access watering port, so that I don’t have to take it down everyday to refill it.

We have two "special" chickens which live in a coop, separate from our wild chicken flock. Keeping them watered has been a challenge. Anything that sits on the ground collects debris and causes us to constantly clean their water bowls. Anything on raised legs helps with the debris, but makes replenishing the water challenging. I am able to make hooks to hang this container on the wall of their cage. We just open the door, pull it out, refill it, and replace. Much easier and it keeps their water clean. The size is fine for two chickens, but probably small for four or more. The time savings and cost saving, makes this a good value for the money.

I just received the 1 gallon waterer today, and it’s working out well. It went together easily, and I like the wingnut design on the cup attachments. I set the waterer on a concrete block and the cups overhang just a bit making the water easy access for my bantams. Today was sweltering hot so added ice to the reservoir with water and the cups stayed half full as advertised, and because the cups are deep and wide, there’s plenty of room to dip that beak and get a big drink. Chicken approved!

Before buying this, the waterer would fill with pine shavings constantly wasting water.. a lot. Filled it's 2 days ago, with 4 chickens, and still has water left. Using the small cups is better, keeps the chicks from using one of the bigger cups as a perch while drinking from the other.

We have used these for 4 years now and they do the job. They are getting much more expensive and I may look for alternatives instead.

My last waterer from them lasted about 2 years. I replaced my 1 water cup with this 2 cup one. I have 4 hens and only have to refill it twice a week. Good quality, like that it’s white and doesn’t let light in

I thought this waterer would be great to transition my chicks to a bigger waterer by sitting it onto a brick. I had issues with it leaking no matter how I placed it. It is meant to be hung or mounted but I never did that as my chicks were too young and there wasn't a way to hang it in the brooder area. I feel like it will work once you can hang it, and I may try that as they get older, but honestly it is too small for my flock at that point. I am writing this review in case there is someone that is thinking the same thing. I rely on reviews to help me purchase as well. That being said, this is a good product, well made and sturdy. Just not what I needed. I own other products from this brand and they perform well.

Love this company! Their products always work well and are durable. This one gallon waterer is much easier to clean than the 2 gallon model. The only thing that does not work is the inside cups for cleaning. Trying to remove them without dumping the dirt right back in the bowl is impossible. Still, easy to clean.

Holds a decent amount of water which makes it heavy enough it doesn't tip over. Dome cover keeps the birds from roosting on it. I like how it also comes with the nipples so I will transition from the cups in the fall to get pullets trained for our heated waterer. I also highly recommend the Rent-a-coop treadle feeder.

It’s perfect for our group of 15 chicks! We have larger and smaller waterers from RentACoop with drinking cups and those are wonderful too!

Came next day . Very well designed . Can hang from handle via rope or via included quick disconnect mounts. Can even be hung on outside of wire mesh runs , etc. . Anti perch pointed lid keeps chickens from pooping on it and water. So much better then messing with screw on types in cold weather !

Getting my big mitts into it to turn a plastic wing nut 1/8th of an inch from the edge/side while trying to hold it against the wire and keeping the water tray through the wire, lined up and not falling out of the hole. I would suggest assembling them in your home and then cutting a hole in your wire if you are going to hang them outside. I also bought bungee cords to hold them up so I wouldn't have to deal with the tiny metal hangers.

If you have baby chicks, you need this! I bought the waterer that is open so they would always have access to water. Well, so does the shavings they kick up! This is definitely worth the money. Literally, ZERO mess and ZERO waste! I did not use the large cups that come with this, only the little cups with nipple. One of the little cups doesn't stay on, so I took it off and the chicks still peck at the nipple and get water. So no harm, there. This is just an overall great product!

Love this water and it’s so much better than the standard systems. One thing that I will say… Water tends to leak out of the fittings. Just be sure that if you’re sitting it on the ground that you put the bucket on a brick and allow for the cups to hang over to eliminate any kind of pressure on the fittings.

Pretty sturdy waterer.
Was able to install it to the side of the chicken fence / coop combo. Remove the red lid to fill up with water and the chickens will figure out the rest.
Since it is only a gallon size, just have to make sure you go out and at least check this twice a day. We have 11 chickens so its needed.
Haven't had any issues since we bought it, well worth it.

I attached this to the coop wall at an appropriate height for chicks, then set it on a brick as they grew larger. They managed to block the float valve a time or two with pine shavings, causing the entire waterer to empty onto the floor of the coop, but I switched out the cups for the included nipple drinkers and the problem was solved.

I purchased this as an alternative to having to constantly clean brooder bedding out of the water. At first I tried the nipples and the chicks weren’t picking up on it so I went to the cups. For some reason the cups were leaking, maybe because of the pressure when the chicks were drinking. I went back to trying the nipples and they were able to pick up on it and it has been wonderful! There’s no more water in the brooder and the chicks have enough to drink. Cleaning is very easy and the water doesn’t have to be changed multiple times per day.

This is a great way to dispense nutrients to my 4 feathered ladies! I hang this on the fence where they tend to relax with 2 short bungie cords, allows me to quickly reach over and grab vs. needing to go inside their yard. That and I can easily add ice on hot days or add warm oregeno tea on cold days. I also keep 2 large waterers filledyard but use this one primarily to rotate doses of vitamins, oregeno tea, ACV, etc. I

I plan to replace my large waterers with these as they wear out. What I run into with larger waters, if I don't fill most of they way (requiring more nutrients to meet the ratio), they easily tip over if the chickens bump into while digging. And with this one hanging on the fence, I can raise it just enough so when they're digging near it, it doesn't get clogged up with leaves, straw, wood chips, etc. The only thing I see occassionally is dirt specs collecting on bottom of cup from the dirt on their beaks. But mostly I like I can change water frequently without needing to put on my work boots and go into their yard every time.

Side note, the comments that water leaks from the 2 holes where the handle is, errrr, d'oh! I prefer the metal sturdy handle over plastic in the hot TX sun, it will last longer and the easy solve is - don't fill it so high :) It's still a gallon of water and makes measuring ratios much easier and less waste (if you're providing fresh water frequently).

The first 2 pictures for this listing show a domed lid, but what I got was a flat lid that my chicks can jump up and poop on. They also manage to knock it over frequently and the water runs out the holes where the handle attaches, flooding the pen and leaving them without drinking water. The square lid has tight corners so it is hard to wedge it loose to fill and also difficult to put back on tightly, although that really doesn't matter since the water can leak out the handle holes anyway. The plastic is not translucent, so the lid must be pried off to check the water level every time. This was a major disappointment and very pricey for such a small waterer. I would have returned this but I missed the return window. I also purchased a 5-gallon chicken waterer from this company which had none of these issues, so I don't know why they don't just make a small version of that design.

I’ve been happy with all of rent-a-coop products. This is the perfect size for chicks. 1 gallon is awesome for measuring and mixing electrolytes and probiotics in the water. My last batch of chicks I had 2 of their 1 liter waterers that I had to fill daily then twice a day as they grew. 1 liter is a good size for a few chicks but not enough for a larger batch. I’m getting another 15 chicks soon and this will be better then measuring and mixing for 2 smaller waters so often. This is also a good size if you have an injured bird you need to separate. It doesn’t take up much room at all in the brooder. It also comes with the nipple drinker so you don’t have to use the cups. The cups still get full of shavings like they do in a regular waterer but I find the chicks prefer the cups to drink from when given the choice.
