Wonderful upgrade from the old heating lamp on the brooder box. Easy to put together and adjust as the chicks grow. Purchased the 12x12 and it easily fit our 26 chicks (as you can see from the video). Anti-roost cone keeps them from climbing and pooping on the top which makes cleaning a breeze. Highly recommend.

Just buy it. So much safer than the bulb and I don’t stress about having a fire. 14 chicks fit fine under this and it was easy to move up as they grew.

My husband and I recently acquired our first flock of chicks. Their bruder worked great for them. I loved the anti-roost cone that you could put on top of the heater to keep the flock from roosting on top of it, made it much easier to clean and take care of. I love the adjusting legs so as the chicks get bigger, you can adjust the height of the top of the Bruder to meet their heating needs. It worked well for them until they were ready to go out into the backyard. The first couple days we had them on paper towels to make sure that they were doing OK, once we switched them to pine shavings there was no issue at all with substrate and the heating mechanism. Very safe, very affordable.

This is my first time hatching/brooding/ raising layers. Total noob. I chose this because I successfully hatched 6 fertilized eggs in my man cave room in the basement and after reading about red lamp fire horror stories, there was no way I would have a heat lamp in my house. Once the chicks hatched, they took to the plate right away. They loved it and it allowed me to keep them inside for the first week. After that I moved them out to my heated shop into a stock tank with this plate on one end and a red lamp on the other.
It worked very well and seemed to maintain a consistent temp. Chicks grow incredibly fast, and there is really no way this would accommodate any more than 10 up to the age where they can regulate their own body temp.
Keep it away from the sides of your brooder to keep a chick from getting trapped by others. I did notice a few very small featherless spots on their backs, likely from the heat of the plate, possibly having the legs set too low, but the spots have since filled in.

Great brood heater. I would say that it’s appropriate for 10 chicks and it was a lot safer than a heat lamp.

We got this for our baby chicks - our first set of chicks didn’t initially care for it so we opted for the traditional heat lamp. However; we then got silkie chicks & they LOVED it. The only one caveat I don’t seem to like - there is no temperature gauge. It’s just set on one setting. It’s not too hot to the touch (I did check before putting it in the brooder), maybe there is another version with adjustable temperature gauge.

Overall works great. Had it for 3 weeks no problems. The top used to be better quality and fit better than the junk they are using for the top now. Doesn’t fit flush.

Because it only heats a small area, it is easier in the summer than a heat lamp to provide the not-so-warm relief area needed for chicks. It's also safer and provides important darkness during the night. However, it is only for shipped chicks after their first week, say the hatcheries. To teach the heat-lamp-accustomed chicks to go under, I cupped them in my hands until they started to nod off, then put them still in my hands under the brooder and lightly held them until they realized how cozy it was and I could withdraw my hands. Once one or two figured it out, they all begin using it. I also love the red and black color with its little anti-perching tent because it matches my chick feeders and waterers. The only negative is that it is advertised to cover 20 chicks, but that would only be if they were crowding together their first week (the time they aren't ready for it yet). At 3 weeks, my 5 layer-type chicks almost fill the space underneath it.

I have two of these set up in brooder bins for ducklings and they work perfectly for them. I had to switch to a heat lamp in my big bin with 8 ducklings at around 3 weeks just because it could not longer fit all of them underneath it, but in my smaller bin with only 4 birds it's still plenty large enough for them.

The heat plate is extremely easy to put together, stays nice and warm, and the pyramid top for it works great for keeping them from jumping up on top of it. I'll be using these heat plates for many birds to come.

It was perfect for our 12 chicks. Easy to adjust as the grew. Really appreciated the angled cover which helped keep it clean. Packs away nicely for storage.

I am a teacher with the obligatory chicken unit for my students. I do not want to set the chickens on fire for many reasons. Furthermore, the idea of a hot bulb over flammable critters and poplar shavings while kids are learning about the miracle that is hatching just gives me pause.

This little device with the perfect little red roof made me feel so much safer. Once our birds hatched we didn’t lose any…so they felt safe as well.

For any teacher in a situation like mine, you need this. Seriously. I wouldn’t have slept over the weekends during this unit if this hadn’t been in the brooder.

Additionally, it stores flat so you can go again next year. You did save that lesson plan, right?

Works perfectly fine. I would say about 15 birds is the max for this, and that might be stretching it. We needed two for our 25 chicks.

We had 12 chicks and 4 ducks under this thing and it did great!! I love that you can adjust the height and it provides the perfect amount of heat for our babies! We had it on for about 4 weeks straight and it never missed a beat! 10/10 would recommend!

This is my first experience with chickens. I tried a standard heating bulb but, it was hard to get the temp correct in the tub for the chicks and it was nerve-wracking to worry about the fire hazards of the 300watt heat bulb.
My chickens love this heater. It uses low watts and doesn't get so hot that a fire might break out. We've had a colder than normal start to the year, so this has helped them move into their coup faster without us worrying about them getting too cold. I just angled it low on one side and high on the other so they could find their comfort zone when needed. I had a camera in the coup to watch them and they used it often but, not solely. It seemed on warmer days - they were less inclined to stay under it. we've had nights as cold as 36 degrees with days as warm as 70 since the onset of spring. On the colder days, I would throw a little extra pine shavings under them for extra insulation.

Took me a few days to realize the cine absolutely needs to be on, or that thing will be a poop deck for them in no time. Cones save lives
Heat-wise, it's great. They love it. We love it. I got this size for 10 chicks, and they still all fit at 4 weeks. Works well, very warm, easy to raise up and down.

Doesn’t get too hot or too cold and very adjustable for all ages of chicks. I’ve also noticed less noisy and more comfortable attitudes from the chicks, not to mention I can sleep at night knowing that the fire hazard is much smaller compared to the lamps

I started with a heat lamp for my day old chicks and ended up purchasing this the day they arrived because I realized I’d have to keep moving the lamp in order to maintain the temperature I wanted. It takes an hour to heat up but as soon as I put it in the temporary enclosure I put the chicks under it and it has been very hands off ever since! I haven’t had to monitor the coop temperature, they have the freedom to move in and out. I will say they really liked to perch on top of it so it would get a lot of poop on it. So would recommend the anti-perch accessory so you can avoid that. I only have 3 chicks so it hasn’t been that big of a deal for me to just clean when I change the water.
