I initially purchased a watering system that automatically refills water cups, but I faced persistent leaks between the T connector and the cups. Despite attempts to fix these issues by cementing and adjusting the O-rings, nothing worked.I then decided to try this nipple adapter, which fit perfectly with my existing system already set up in the coop. One major drawback of my initial setup was that the watering bowls were too large and positioned too low. As a result, the quails frequently perched on them, creating a mess and displacing the cups, which caused continuous water flow. This led to soggy bedding that attracted numerous flies.The nipple attachment has been a game changer. It provides just the right amount of water without spilling, and it still includes a cup to catch any drips, which is fantastic. Additionally, its smaller design prevents the quails from roosting on it, resolving the issues I previously encountered. Overall, I highly recommend this nipple adapter for anyone looking to improve their watering system.
Just got it installed.. ended up having to use a water jug.. the first 2 things didn't work out and it was going into a crate so not much room for a 3-5 gal bucketHope it works and doesn't leek all over.. I'll check on them shortly.. it looks like they learned how to used it quickly.
Chicken waterers are expensive!! I took some ice cream buckets and fit these into the bucket just like the big 5 gal bucket original. I kept having chicks dump the water in the broader. This saved the mess.I used these for 5 week old chicks and 2 day old chicks. There is a little learning curve for the chicken and you have to show them how to get the water. They WILL catch on. I think the babies are learning faster than the 5 week olds.I have the original bucket with these water nipples out in the run and the big girls figured it out super fast.Note**the red nipples need to be at eye level to help them learn.Best part, clean water now always available, no dumping with a wet mess.
First, these work great! The improved design with the little cups underneath (as pictured) is fabulous, and we were excited to see that, as it was unexpected. The nozzles release water without a lot of pressure.They’re not as easy for the babies as we’d hoped. Our big girls (3-weeks old) seem to have it down without issue. We have a separate brooder with four younger babies (two are 1 week, and two are two weeks). We’ve shown them several times, but they don’t seem to be drinking from them, and will even peck at the water bottle itself. When we do it for them and show them again, they drink everything pooled in the little cups and peck around, but to no avail. We have pushed their beaks to them several times. We installed yesterday, and measured the water levels to check this morning. They’re not getting enough. We’re going to keep showing them and monitoring through today, to give them a chance, but if they don’t get, we’re going to need to change them. I’m already thinking about giving them electrolytes. Just something to be aware of when getting these. Make sure your chicks are getting it before leaving them alone and assuming they have water to drink.Last thing to note, our package did not come with the promised drill bit. My husband had one, so for us it was fine, but if you don’t, that seems to be a common theme, so be prepared for that.
Pretty annoyed right now. First let me say I have purchased a lot of rent-a-coop products and loved them all until this purchase. I have been looking for a high capacity, clean watering system for my chickens for a while that is also functional during often-sub-zero winters. After going through a bunch of commercial waterers, I decided to switch to horizontal nipples with a stainless steel milk can. The stainless steel can set me back about $100, so I followed the installation directions to the letter. While I only had a few holes to drill and knew I could get the job done with bits I had on hand, I spent an extra $20 on a 11/32 ("recommended") cobalt drill bit. I drilled my holes only to discover this size is inaccurate if you're not using a pliable plastic container. You can see from the picture in my review that inserting the nipple with an 11/32 hole in stainless steel completely stripped the plastic nipple. If I was using a $5 plastic bucket I wouldn't care so much, but I invested a fair amount of money in this project and followed the directions and it is an utter failure. If I insert the nipples just to where it fits on the nipple, it is only inside the can by about 3/16", which makes the washer on the outside utterly ineffective. Tried adding three washers so I could at least get a snug fit. I decided to fill my can with all three different nipple installations and all three leaked like crazy. Thankfully, the holes are too small and not too big, so I guess I can experiment on my milk can and try to find a better fit than stated in the directions, because it's $134 (can, bit, and nipples) in the garbage if I don't. Hoping I can salvage this or I'll be even more annoyed. If I find my way and have luck with these eventually, I will update my review with details and a less annoyed review.
Love these for my chickens, it helps conserve water and no leaking!!
Once my chickens learned to use these, they are easy. We had the bigger bowl type ones and they broke and constantly got flipped around when moving their water dish. My husband installed these on a 5 gal bucket. Work great, probably used for 2 summers now.

Very sturdy, easy to assemble
I like the little drip bowl...good idea. Easy to install.. Training chicks to drink from nipple and they can easily drink from little bowl after they peck the little silver plug. Other nipples drip onto brooder bottom. Its only been a week or so. They havent totally gotten the hang of it yet...seems like their little beaks arent strong enough yet..so the bowl helps.
This purchase was used to build water stations for my chickens. My 5 and 7 yr old grands help build it. It was so simple that these kids could do it. The cups out work well. The only thing is drilling the hole has to be precise else the cups seal may eventually leak.
These are great!I have a very expensive waterer that came with my coop and when the cups broke I had never been able to find a replacement that didn’t leak but did fit. I put these in and they work fantastic. Also it’s nice not having gross cups filled with dirt
Works great! Used them on a TSC bucket, no leaking and chickens were able to use them immediately! Love that there is a tiny bit of a cup under the opening to catch the water and really easy to clean.
Absolutely the best chicken waterers you will find. These should theoretically last forever unlike the cup design ones that barely last a season.. Just keep them from getting clogged with junk in the water and you will he happy with these.
Although my Chickens didn’t like these they did not leak and held up when attach to the buckets and did pretty well when I tested them on a metal trash can. I think I press the little button more than the chickens did to get them to try to use it. They prefer cups.
I have 40 chickens, live in Michigan, and have three plastic 5-gallon buckets, each fitted with three of these plastic nipples for water. They were easy to install, and so long as the hole isn't over-drilled and too big, leaking hasn't been an issue for me. The cups are a bit stiff and difficult to remove, but the ability to remove them has been nice in the winters when any puddles freeze so quickly. My chickens caught onto using them pretty quickly, I just used my finger to show a couple of them that the metal rod releases water until one tried it themself, and the rest followed suit. Being in Michigan, these do freeze without a water heat source, so I also outfitted my buckets with heater pucks that plug into the outlets in my coop, and despite the 2°F weather we got last week, my water stayed warm enough to drink through these.
Didnt realize the threaded fill tube was not the same size as our existing water cups. Who would even think that?I hate the traditional metal watering can, such a pia to fill so we tried a bucket with some cups we had left from our not winter watering system. With watering cups the water would freeze in the cup causing them not to fill, so thought these would work as the nipple is metal and should stay warm via the heated water.Once we rebuilt our winter water system and installed these we found they work fine. I have been checking them each morning when i do my coop chores and so far so good. It's -8 this morning so far this will be the coldest test.
These nipples really have helped reduce my work at providing clean water for my chickens. I haven’t had problems with leakage per se, however my complaint is that they do not come with the little wingnuts to help secure them And inevitably when I would take the bucket to be cleaned and refilled one of The nipples would come out and the water would start streaming out. They do sell the wingnuts online which I purchased, and it has resolved the problem. I just think they should include the wingnuts with these nipples.
I bought these to create a piping and reservoir system for my chicken coop that I could fill with a five gallon bucket every day or two and not have to worry about them dirtying the water supply and whatnot. I'm SO happy I did - this makes taking care of chickens much simpler.As for the product, it seems to be of good quality. If I were you, I'd run them in by hand - particularly if you're using the PVC tees with the 1/4" threaded center out. A drill might be nice if you're putting them in a bucket, but I'm pretty sure you'd break a tee trying to drill the thing in there. Just tighten it down by hand - there's a nice silicone gasket on each one that makes for a leak-free seal.I did have one small issue with one (after install) where a grain of sand (or something that size) got caught in the sealing ring on the nipple, causing it to leak considerably. However, I took it out and cleaned the debris and it was good to go. I've had six of them in service for a few months now with no additional problems.
