RentACoop Chick2Chicken 5lb 2-Port Feeder

I am using this feeder for my adult Coturnix Quail and they are able to eat out of both sides of it. It took them maybe a day to learn to use it, I just sprinkled some food/treats on the edge of the opening like RentACoop recommends. The thing I love about this feeder is I have had ZERO waste. It is a little pricy to start with but I think it is a good investment in reducing waste and keeping the hutch clean. It is also solid, they are not able to move or tip it, lid stays in place, not sure about chickens, can only speak for my quail. I wouldn’t use it in an area that is not weather protected unless you are expecting clear skies as rain could easily enter through the feeding holes.

So, far, it works! I needed a vacation feeder setup for my diamond-dove that wouldn't let him dig it all out in one day. I've tried many feeders made for birdcages, but Morse (dove) made a seedalanche out of all of them!This chick feeder, however, is spot on. The design is awesome in the gravity vs tiny dove regard. Obviously, I'll only use the smallest side, but he caught on real quick and seems to like it.I cut down the feeder's height to fit where I wanted it. I couldn't get the water dispenser's hooks to attach on both sides ... using a cal-cage with heavy duty bars (my carpal tunnel is no doubt to blame), so I tied the hook on and used both attachments. 😆 It's holding fine!

This pair of Barred Rock Pullets just came home from the feed store and were eating within moments of being placed in front of the feeder.The directions say to overfill the chick ports to help them learn how to use the feeder. (This only needs to be done once and then they get it.) Other chicks will copy the first as soon as one begins eating.This is SOOOO much easier than wasting half a bag of food that is kicked out of the dish and mingled with the litter! I’m glad I invested in this and I wish I’d had it from the very beginning. It is made of incredibly thick, durable plastic and looks like it will last 30+ years. A must-have for anyone who raises chicks!Update April 2020: I raised 11 chicks to almost 6 weeks old using 3/5 of one 50 lb bag of chick crumbles and used this feeder the whole time. There was almost zero waste and I still have 20 pounds of feed. (This means the 11 chicks were eating right around 5 pounds per week and wasting nearly none of it.) Previously I was going through 8-10 pounds per week using one of the jar-and-plastic-base round chick feeders. Clean up of the feeder with a magic eraser was an absolute breeze. I am so glad I invested in this! Chicks every spring will now be much more effortless!Update July 2020: This feeder is wonderful for reducing brooder messes. I’ve found that buying pelleted pine horse stall bedding from TSC to use as brooder litter keeps the feed ports from becoming clogged. They will kick in a pellet or two but then rake it out of the way and continue eating. Multiple spring hatches enjoyed using this feeder!

I'd been using this a few months before I realized it really has a major design flaw. The two ports are so close together the feed is constantly clumping up in the narrow area and blocking it from flowing freely to where the chickens can access it. I found myself daily checking it and having to knock it loose. My area has been in a drought so I only recently discovered rain getting in where the handle is. This moisture added to the previous problem and I ended up with not only a clogged up feeder but also maggots. Concerned my chickens didn't have access to feed for two days while I was out of town. Currently using a mix of crumble and pellets, maybe it works better with grain? Either way, having to check the feeder daily defeats the purpose of having an automatic feeder.

I want to love it, I like the design, the sliders at the bottom of the ports are great.However.....it is not well suited for mash. I am struggling with the mash not falling into the empty space.I know it's meant for in a small brooder, but I would love for it to have an option for a 3rd or 4th port.

The customer service for Rent a coop is nonexistent. for someone to promote that they will reach back out to you within 24 hours but don't is asinine and embarrassing. I have 20+ rent a coop feeders and waterers for my small poultry business. I have always thought highly of the company and prompted them to customers but after my latest experience with them I will be sending everything back and disassociating myself with the company. I ordered 10 feeders for my new breeding coop, 6 of which came in with no mounting hardware. I reached out to the company the following day where I left them a voicemail and I emailed them letting them know I didn't receive the parts I needed to use the items, no response. I Called them again the following day and sent them a message on Facebook, no response (this was a Friday). I then called on Monday left them a voicemail and explained to them that I was going to have to return the items if they could not send me the mounting hardware because it doesn't work for me and after $500 I shouldn't have to go and purchase additional items to mount these feeders due to the lack of customer service. No response.. so I have now decided to cut my losses send everything back and order from another company who has offered me wholesale pricing and has gone above and beyond on the customer service where all I wanted RentACoop to do was send me the items missing but clearly that was asking to much..

I love this feeder. It makes feeding my quail super convenient and I don't have to worry about any mess getting into the food.I hatched all my birds, so it was very easy to use my finger to "peck" at the feed opening and have my flock follow along. It's an absolutely valuable feeder for a small flock.

Works great. Keeps the bulk feed clean. You have to empty and clean the bottom from time to time because the feed will cake at the bottom

I bought this so that my hens would have a 2nd feeder after watching some of the girls getting pushed out by the alpha hen. I had to place it on stack of pavers and 1/2 concrete block in middle of an uncovered yard so the girls could reach it. Not ideal. Perfect if you can mount it under something. I don't have anything I can use at the moment but the plan is to get a used patio table, connect a chain to hold it in place on top of the concrete block in case the girls knock it over. They all RAC it is solid built. The corner feed functionality does not work for us but it may work for you. I think it would have worked better if it had one on each side but then it would have had to be wider. It is easy to use, a little difficult to assemble but no biggie. You do have to take it completely apart to clean it properly or bits will get stuck on the bottom holes, the rubber seal but I do like that I close off the food. I bring it in the barn or house at night because I despise pests and rodents around my chickens. I only buy RAC products because their customer service is top notch.

First, my chickens are dumb. I bought two of these two-port feeders and immediately stashed my old feeders. I hated how the old feeders would get full of water every time it rained despite tarps. I love that these feeders protect the feed from rain. I live in Louisiana and bad rain happens often. I have been putting chicken feed or treats in the ports several times a day. The food would be gone but nothing more. So today I gave up and changed the ports so that the food drops down from the top and my birds started eating right away. I'll know in a few days if this worked or not. Dear RentACoop folks -- please consider the option of allowing food to come in from the top and also have two rain shields (top and bottom) on each port so that they can use one to eat out of while the top one protects from rain. I love your product and I"ll know soon if my change works.

This feeder is great for small spaces. However cleaning the feeder I had to remove all of the parts. I found due to summer humidity mold in the tight spaces showed up quickly.

It works great once you get it put together, which, due to the dimensions and size of the pieces you have to install is MUCH more difficult than it needs to be. Simply making the box that holds the food 1/2 inch longer on each side, or the pieces you have to install 1/4 inch shorter would make it much easier to put together, and would warrant a 5 star rating.The way it is now, the pieces that get installed inside interfere with each other and to get them installed takes a little bit black magic and a lot of luck!

I wish it was easier for baby chicks to reach the food, chick crumbles don’t seem to feed down into small opening very well

Excited to get this but the slide levers that close this AND the smaller one that I purchased have fallen off and are lost in the coops after only 3 days. I only have 3 gentle chickens. I'm disappointed, the closing levers were a huge part of the attraction of these and they are worthless/missing so now they don't close overnight. I'm afraid that I seriously wasted my noney.

After experiencing a lot of waste with my baby chicks feed, I ordered this product. It definitely is a no mess feeder, but the problem I’m having is that the mash feed gets stuck and does not fall down to where the chicks can reach. They know how to use it, but it doesn’t automatically refill so I am still having to try to shake it down or refill it by the front which defeats the purpose of having a feeder that doesn’t need to be constantly filled. They should be switching to a crumble in about a week, so I will try it with that and then update my review if it’s better. It’s unfortunate because I love the idea of this and the matching water has been very successful!Update! Although this was difficult with the starter mash, the crumble works very well! My chicks have done well with no mess!Additionally, customer service was incredibly helpful, responsive and genuinely wanted their product to be successful. I am changing my 2 star to 5.

I recommend this product. It is a game changer as far as no wasted feed and lowering the maintenance on a daily basis. Some folks have said their birds can't reach the feed. The instructions are clear about this. On the first day you shake the feed so that it goes down into the ports. This is how the birds know where the feed is and as they continue to feed, the feed WILL trickle down so that they can reach it (even though it may appear to be not working). They get the hang of it very quickly. Great for quail.

This is a really well thought out construction. It is slim and sits on the floor of a coop. I have a mixed small flock of 4 guineas and 5 Easter eggers, received after 3 days of shipping on June 17th, so right about 6 weeks old. The ports on both sides are accessible to all of the birds, although the small side may be too small for the larger, taller chicks than the keets, in a day or so. They required no training except the suggestion from the literally mom and pop green manufactury that makes these. So far, I love it.This particular one is small enough to really be perfect for a continuing inside coop feeder so broodies don't get hungry, later, unless the ports are too small by then. The passive no-roost top is really sweet. I like this new toy, and the biddies do, too!

Bought this item to avoid the chicks constant kicking of debris into their feeder so though this would work - it does but the scratching and kicking up of shavings and poo makes it into the feeder and I am pretty sure that the chicks aren't eating out of it because of this - so I clean the ports 2 times a day when home and not sure it's a good feeder. I fill the ports full to make sure they can get to the food but I don't see them eating out of it regularly.I like their products so far but this may need some tweeking - I can't hang it up just yet as their brooder/area is a soft dog crate and no where to hang it - their coop should be ready this week and they are almost fully feathered so we may hang this and see if it works or put it up a big off the ground but I don't think that will change how the scratching throws stuff up into the feeder ports. Probably going to buy a treadle feeder to avoid all the mess.

1.Only has 2 white cover for the 2 big ports, cz my little ones have grown up to over 12 weeks, I can't use the small ports anymore when I receive it,I had to use the tape to cover the 2 small ports, just in case the mice will come to steal--So not convenient. 2.Really need a corner one, not a central one. 3. The bucket itself can be bigger, not big enough. If it can be bigger, then you can make the corner one. 4.If you provide the cone to cover the top will be perfect so the naughty chicks will not try to perch on it. 5. the chick's waterer has a short chain so that I can secure it on the hardware cloth, so it will not easy to fall to on chicks to kill them.This one needs a short chain too for safety reason.Overall, definitely like their products, and have already bought 6 pieces. While this is the worst,this can be designed better!
