RentACoop 32oz(1L) Automatic Drinker with Auto-Fill Cup and Horizontal Nipple

This is smaller than you think. When I saw it, my first thought was to return it but I had baby chicks and was ready to try anything that might give them a source of cleaner water. I didn't think they were using it until the holder was nearly dry, so I decided to keep it. They seem to love it! They are two months old and were recently moved to their larger pen. Even though they get some debris in the drinking cup, I keep paper towels handy to quickly swish out the dirt. They have other water sources in the pen, and I'm not sure how they keep the others so filthy!

First, I love to buy from family owned, USA oportated companies. I'd give 5 stars, if not for a basin issue I encounter daily. Please read on!I love this auto water for my chicks. (4 week old Lav.Orpingtons in the pic) I poked 3 holes in my brooder box to customize a fixation station :). All parts were provided with my order.Great for any age, stage of chicken! It's easy to use, fill and simple enough to clean.I wipe the water basin daily to avoid bacteria build up, which can kill a bird. The only draw back is that the bowl tips back and get water everywhere, but I see that's needed to have it as an auto fill. It is also not so easy to get debris out without disabling the whole contraption. I have to get a wash cloth and wipe it out and do it fast before it refills back up! I wish there was a way to remove the small basin to clean it without needing to dismantle everything. But that won't keep me from buying another in the near future! All birds should have more than one water source, when there is morebthan 1.Other than a few needed design updates for easy daily cleaning, it is wonderful and I'd buy another! I will definitely recommend this product. Great company, all their products seem legit and good.

Poor design, leaks or overflows if position of anything is not perfect. I thought the first one I received was defective because it leaked beneath the cup, where the cup hinges. So I asked for a replacement. Second one overflowed the cup. At this point I realized something else just be going on. The leakage at cup hinge joint turned out to be cut not being perfectly straight horizontally (gotta wiggle cup till it's perfectly in line/parallel to rest of unit. And I mean PERFECTLY, no room for error). The overflow turned out to be the cup not perfectly leveled vertically, either due to surface not being perfectly flat or the cup is sightly skewed vertically and needs to be wiggled till it's level. And then your chickens run into it when you're not around and the perfect leveling you had achieved needs to be recreated. Too much trouble. Not to mention that in a year, the plastic will warp and you won't be able to seal it wiggle any solution. Prior year I had a different rentacoop waterer and it didn't survive more than one year due to warping issue. No more rentacoop and def no more plastic. Lesson learned. Learn from my mistake

I’ve bought 3 of these now. The first got brittle after 2 years of use and the container cracked. The other two came together because my hens drink more than 32oz in a day. They do need to be taken apart and cleaned periodically (obviously), but they do resist algae growth better than any other waterer I’ve had. I also really like that it can be mounted on the outside of the coop so I can refill it quickly and cleanly.

Wanted it while we were going to be gone a week. Parakeets refused to use it

I needed a small waterer for an injured rooster that lived indoors for a while. It was smaller than I thought it would be; it's no bigger than a loaf of bread and is perfect for one or two birds. I cannot see it being used with more than that. It's well made and is best utilized if you put it on a riser. A little pricey for something so small.

Does the job but is a pain to clean the inside

I’ve bought 5 of these for our rabbits and when I needed another one, I blindly ordered this one. Sure the last one I got has the black parts, but for whatever reason I prefer the red. So I got this one. I handed the box to my son who put it in the cage without a second thought. It wasn’t until I checked on them that I saw that this bowl is plastic! And my rabbit had already put several teeth marks in it.I love these waterers, but the designs are changing enough from years past that you need to pay attention. I should have just gotten the black one so it would have the metal bowl. It’s my own fault for just clicking order, but I don’t know how long this will last.

Great for my quail, holds enough water for the day and it doesn’t leak. The lid is a little annoying but it works, I do think they’re a bit pricey for what you get.

I first got this for my conures because it seemed like such a great concept. I could refill their water from outside the cage?! Genius! At first they were afraid, they were petrified. They stayed on the other side of the cage and squawked at it for the good half of the afternoon. Then they started to attack it and chewed the little red cup. It appears that they would rather die of dehydration before using it for its intended purpose. So I took it out of their cage and put it outside for my chickens. Well, they’re too stupid to figure out what it even is so it’s a nice backyard ornament I suppose. I’m rating it 4 stars because even though it didn’t work out for me, the product is actually great, and maybe other people have normal, mentally stable animals.

***Update***Within a couple days of posting this review the seller reached out to me to get the problem resolved. They ended up sending out a new cup at no additional cost. The new cup works like a charm. The chicks all drink out of it with no training needed. They're outside during the day now. It seems to be holding up well in the Florida heat. They did get some shavings in the cup when they were still in the brooder but now that they're outside the cup has been staying clean. Changing my rating to 5 stars and I'm very pleased with this purchase. Likely going to be getting a bigger version for the adult flock.I got this product for some new baby chicks. They're still in a cardboard box because they're so little. They will be transferred to a larger cage soon. They took to drinking out of it right away, which was great. There was no learning curve of trying to peck at a dispenser to release water. I was able to suspend the drinker on the side of the box using the clips provided. The problem is that the water leaks out of the bottom where the spring is located. It seems the product is designed for the weight of the water in the cup to trigger the spring to seal the valve. As the birds drink up the water, the weight shift in the cup will allow the water to be slowly released. When it's first filled up, it reacts correctly. But as the chicks start drinking and the valve opens up, the water drips all the way out thru the spring, into the box, onto the floor, emptying the container. So now every 30 mins or so I fill the little cup back up and they clammer to get a drink, which defeats the purpose of getting it. It is extremely easy to clean and does avoid getting shavings and debris in the watering cup. I fear this is more of a design issue than a one-off faulty product.

I bought this for some little chicks. It comes with a nipple feeder and a cup. I wanted to use the cup feeder as that was what the chicks were already used to and I wanted to be sure they were getting enough liquid. The cup would fill with water and then all of the water would slowly leak out the back, over and over again, making a complete mess. I read the directions, made sure it was level, undid everything, brought it back inside, reassembled it several times and retested it and it continued to leak. I tried to reach customer svc and they would not answer and the recording said to send and email, so I did. In the interim, I attached the nipple feeder to see if that too would leak and brought it out and attached it to their cage and also added an older waterer I had into their cage in case they didn't take to the nipple feeder. Customer service wanted me to go back to the coop, remove it all again, reattach the leaking cup, take a picture of it leaking and then send it to them. After multiple trips back and forth and trying to make the damned thing work for HOURS, this was the last thing I wanted to hear. I was simply asking them to send me a replacement cup in the hopes the replacement cup would work. To date, I have heard nothing from this company....and am no longer using this waterer at all. Waste of my time and my money.

I had another system with a hose for the water, but just kept ending up with leaks. This worked perfectly! It is easy to install and loved it so much, I bought a second one for my other cage. The second one has a removable cup liner. I don’t find that makes cleaning too much easier as I need the water near empty to clean it out either way, but the concept is nice. This thing has definitely made maintenance for my quail a lot easier though. Just fill and go! The only downside I’ve found is that when I get the lid on, the little door in the lid doesn’t open easily. But I just pop the whole lid off and back on, so not really an issue for me.

Bought this for my 10 parakeets and it works perfectly! it has zero leaking, it holds a ton of water and the mechanism for how it auto fills is personally impressive. I always have problems with my birds sitting on the edge of their dish and dirtying it up and they don’t like me sticking my hands in the cage to clean and change it so often so this was a blessing. the water has stayed perfectly clean since it’s the perfect size for them to drink plenty but not sit on it and i can fill it up from the outside! very very happy with this product, would definitely buy again and highly recommend this.
