Automatic waterer with auto-fill cup and nipple option for poultry and small animals. Customers said it "resists algae growth" and doesn't leak or spill. Easy to mount outside coops for quick refills. Some concerns about cleaning difficulty and mounting hardware. Works well for chickens, chicks, and guinea pigs, though may require training for young birds.

    Worthless. Skip this product.

I got this to use as a tiny waterer for our chicken sick bay cage. Unfortunately, I can't tell you how well it works because I didn't get that far. Why? Because this waterer cannot be securely attached to a cage wall. The only "mounting hardware" included is a worthless spring that isn't strong enogh to even keep the waterer off the ground. I see in other photos, some people have metal wire hardware holding it to a cage wall. Because of those images I assumed it came with that to attach it, as all small animal waterers typically do. But surprise, they cheaped out and so this one doesn't. Apparently they expect you to accomplish this with a weak spring instead. What a joke. Whatever that red knob thing is near the lid shown in some product images didn't come with it either.

I have the larger 2 gallon waterer of the same brand in my chicken run, and liked the quality, so I tried this one out here. I guess RentACoop products are hit and miss. This one is a big miss and not what was advertised.

Great product and easy to use!

These little chicken waterers are great for little chicks and big chicks too! I love that they are mounted on the outside of the wire for easy refilling! And with the included gasket, NO Leaks! We bought 1 to test it out and loved it so much that we ordered 2 more. We'll be getting more soon as chick season is ramping up and we'll need more waterers for the additional brooders.

Excellent little auto water container/bowl for my chicks!

First, I love to buy from family owned, USA oportated companies. I'd give 5 stars, if not for a basin issue I encounter daily. Please read on!

I love this auto water for my chicks. (4 week old Lav.Orpingtons in the pic) I poked 3 holes in my brooder box to customize a fixation station :). All parts were provided with my order.
Great for any age, stage of chicken! It's easy to use, fill and simple enough to clean.

I wipe the water basin daily to avoid bacteria build up, which can kill a bird. The only draw back is that the bowl tips back and get water everywhere, but I see that's needed to have it as an auto fill. It is also not so easy to get debris out without disabling the whole contraption. I have to get a wash cloth and wipe it out and do it fast before it refills back up! I wish there was a way to remove the small basin to clean it without needing to dismantle everything. But that won't keep me from buying another in the near future! All birds should have more than one water source, when there is morebthan 1.

Other than a few needed design updates for easy daily cleaning, it is wonderful and I'd buy another! I will definitely recommend this product. Great company, all their products seem legit and good.

    5-Star Product: Honest/Detailed Review

Update: (1/10/21) Here I am nearly a year after buying these, and absolutely everything I wrote below is still 100% true! This is still the best product I’ve ever bought for my guinea pigs... they do everything they claim to and more! I couldn’t be happier with them! No problems what-so-ever!

Update: (6/1/20) My guinea pigs have been using these waterers for 4 months and they still love them! They don’t chew them or spill them at all, and the waterers are holding up wonderfully in all areas of concern; No problems at all! This is by far the BEST product I’ve ever bought for my guinea pigs! Plus I still feel that my guinea pigs actually drink more from these vs. the old water bottles and there’s absolutely no dripping/spillage or noise when they drink, (which could be a bother for some people as some guinea pigs can be rather active during night/pre-dawn hours.) Would I buy again? Yes, 100%! I’ve told everyone I know with small animals to buy these waterers too!

*Updated Tip: Anyone who has guinea pigs knows that they’re messy little creatures, so they will inevitably get things like hay/poop/treats inside these water cups, (because they’re open like bowls.) However, I keep mine located in a corner to minimize this and I use a large, plastic turkey baster (with a large opening at the end) to suck all of the water & debris out of the cups, (it makes this task incredibly fast & easy!) It’s also an excellent way to completely empty the dispenser of water should you want to clean the cups/dispenser. I use the baster to remove debris daily, (it just takes a few seconds,) the entire waterer is made of food-grade plastic too which means I’ve never found the cup/dispenser to have any on it either.

Initial Review: I bought and quickly received (2) RentaCoop 1 liter auto-fill small animal waterers (on 2/1/2020) and they are already working out wonderfully for my 3 guinea pigs! They came with simple yet detailed instructions which made setting them up and securing them to the cage incredibly easy.

Note: These waterers are sold with and without the automatically-filled “cups” that attach to the nipple and are designed to go inside the cage. So be absolutely sure that you are buying the product that comes with the cups if you are buying them for small animals, (mice/hamster/guineas pigs/etc.,) as I’m not sure a small animal would be able to easily drink from them without the cups.

Tip: Before the first use you have to take the top completely off to get the metal holders/cups/instructions out of the inside of the waterer, (I couldn’t get these things out without first taking the top off.) When you go to replace the top it’s going to be hard to snap it back in place, I found the easiest way was to slide the plastic edge into the front or back lip of the top and press hard. Do this on a flat surface, BEFORE you install the waterer onto the cage! It makes putting the top back on a lot easier! Once you’ve done this, however, the rest of the setup is a breeze as long as you install the nut in the correct spot, (more about that below.)

I bought these waterers to solve a couple of problems I kept having; Water bottles leaking, taking up too much space inside the cage, not being able to be easily cleaned, not being able to easily refill, and having to attach/reattach the traditional bottles with flimsy metal wire or twist ties, etc. every time I needed to refill/clean. Ugh... This new water dispenser however has solved every one of those problems so far!

The water dispenser itself is designed to stay on the outside of the cage leaving only the self-filling cup on the inside of the cage for your pet to drink from. This saved a LOT of room on the inside of my cage as I used to have to keep water troughs under my old water bottles because they leaked so badly, (and even with the water troughs there still wasn’t a 100% guarantee that the old water bottles wouldn’t get moved while being used by a guinea pig and leak every last ounce out into the cage.)

These water dispensers were also easily attached to my cage, even with the full weight of the water it stayed in place very well. At first I used only the metal wire to hold them up, but I ended up installing the metal spring around the bottom of them too just for good measure. With both of these in place, the water dispenser doesn’t move at all and I no longer have to fool with trying to reattach the waterer on the side of my cage with clamps, twist ties, etc. This makes refilling/cleaning SO much easier!

The two holders do not squeeze the water dispenser either (as they usually do with traditional water bottles) as the plastic on this dispenser is much thicker and holds its square shape even when you install the holders tightly around it. Because of the thicker plastic, the dispenser isn’t squeezed which makes water come out of the end of the traditional water bottles; another problem I had with my old water bottles. I read reviews on this product before I bought it that s...

    Stays remarkably clean

I’ve bought 3 of these now. The first got brittle after 2 years of use and the container cracked. The other two came together because my hens drink more than 32oz in a day. They do need to be taken apart and cleaned periodically (obviously), but they do resist algae growth better than any other waterer I’ve had. I also really like that it can be mounted on the outside of the coop so I can refill it quickly and cleanly.

Just like the larger rent a coop waterers - great for temporary needs

Worked very good in our smaller cage we use for daily yard excursions for the chickens. I use the same type of waterer in their run, only larger and all my girls like it. The screw on clamp style hanger makes attaching this to the cage very easy.

Easy to put up and refil

I put thus in with my baby chickens and it's great. It's easy to refil and it automatically fills up when they drink. However the down side is once it gets dirty it's hard to clean.

MUCH better than a water dish. Hasn't spilled once.

I have two housechickens, one male, one female. we also have a large dog, so any wafter left out ends up all over the floor, most of it in the dog. So now they have their own water, and it doesn't spill.

Nice size for a special purpose

I ordered this for an emergency crate for a chick that needed to be separated from the others. It can hang on the outside of a wire animal crate, with the water cup inside the crate. This requires disassembling it and reassembly. You can use a hanger, sold separately, if you want to hang it on the inside of the wire crate. You can’t put this onto a level surface to fill, the cups will empty faster than you fill the container. This has to hang; it can’t be placed on the floor of the crate or it will empty itself quickly. The lid flaps must be held up while filling, they don’t stay open.

    Awesome waterer

We originally had a stand alone waterer for our chickens and it was such a pain to keep clean and full! This one was a game changer. Mounted it outside the coop and makes for easy filling!!!

Is absolutely perfect for my birds, except cleaning is very difficult. Still a good solution and could just use a little redesign.

    Best Waterer Ever

I got this for my cockatiel and green cheek conure. They have big bowls that they get in every day to bathe so I wanted something smaller like this that would stay clean so they could also have clean drinking water during the day. It is a really cool design because the birds can perch on the big cup to drink and weighing it down doesn’t make it fill up. When it gets empty/lighter it goes up and triggers the refill that stops when it starts to weigh it down.

    Perfect for chicken jail

I have 7 hens(all the same breed), and one in particular likes to get broody, so for her own good she gets sentenced to 24hrs in prison and when I check on her the next morning if she swells up and growls at me she gets another 24hrs. This waterer is a perfect size to not take up too much room in her little jail cell while holding plenty of water for her.

    Not for newborn chicks

I love the size and everything but my baby chicks would not use it cuz they couldn’t figure it out. Now they are 6 weeks and their beaks are stronger and can figure out somewhat. I think as they get older and stronger they’ll figure out. I love the size for my red barn brooder.

It's good but.. not for a bird cage.

It's fine, but my parrot likes to soak her food an it gets dirty fast and it's difficult to pull apart if it's on a bird cage. The product is not bad, it just didn't work for me. Now they have a removable inner cup that potentially could make it easy to clean.

    Great Concept

I first got this for my conures because it seemed like such a great concept. I could refill their water from outside the cage?! Genius! At first they were afraid, they were petrified. They stayed on the other side of the cage and squawked at it for the good half of the afternoon. Then they started to attack it and chewed the little red cup. It appears that they would rather die of dehydration before using it for its intended purpose. So I took it out of their cage and put it outside for my chickens. Well, they’re too stupid to figure out what it even is so it’s a nice backyard ornament I suppose. I’m rating it 4 stars because even though it didn’t work out for me, the product is actually great, and maybe other people have normal, mentally stable animals.

    I really like these!

Our hens really like these waterers (and the 2.5 lb. single-port feeders from this company). It didn't take long at all for them to figure out how to use them. Once in a while, our medium-sized hens go bonkers and try to climb on top of these, but they have never gotten broken. Also, they do not leak at all. However, they do get dirty. The outside gets covered with dust and dirt, and the drinking cup gets gross with chicken slobber, dust, and pine shavings. What we do is empty the waterers every morning and then scrub the inside of the cups with a paper towel before refilling them. We have two hens sharing each one of these, and we find that they need to be refilled every day; on very hot days, though, we refill them twice a day. We are very pleased with these!
