Best waterer for the money. Worth every penny!

This horizontal nipple waterer is a game changer! It's the natural way chickens should be drinking water instead of those vertical nipples where they have to look up and peck at it, which most often drip too much water causing a wettness of the chicken run or coop which can be a breeding ground for bacteria and just muddy. Water stays clean and no more worrying about dirt & stuff like chicken poop being kicked into the traditional open water containers. Quite easy to assemble and try to not overtighten everything too much otherwise you may damage the nipples and the red outside cups. Use teflon tape to wrap around the plastic threads just in case you think you may have a leak or already have a leak. So far no leaks for my four nipples! Couldn't be more happier. Happy and stress-free hens lay more eggs! Five stars all the way! My hens figured out how to use this nipple waterer under 20 seconds! 👍👍👍

    Works great

Works great! Chickens figured it out quickly. I plumbed an irrigation line to the top (so every day when the vegetables get watered this gets topped off automatically)

    Good product

This has worked well! We have it placed up on cinder block. We were able to purchase and insert a bubbler for the winter time to keep the water from freezing. Easy to clean. Chickens love it.

We love this water container for the chickens!

We have about 20 chickens and this water container has been such a great system for our coop. It is so easy to wash and it stays clean for quite some time. The chickens have to press the metal button on the spout with their beaks for water to come out which helps to decrease waste. The spout itself will get dirty from the chickens kicking dirt on it, but it doesn’t stop the water from dispensing and it is so easy to clean and it doesn’t get the water dirty. The function is great and my chickens figured it out immediately. There is no leakage and it is very easy to assemble to clean and to add more water. It’s a great product for the price.

Best chicken waterer on the market!

I love this chicken waterer. It's so easy to fill and keeps the water clean. Chickens learn how to drink from it right away. The cone top is a game changer making sure the chickens can't jump on top of it. I find the 5 gallon is a great amount of water for my 10 chickens. It will last me about a week. High quality, extremely functional, and would purchase again. I have also bought their feeder and same great quality.

This is my favorite brand for feeders and waterers. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Large and clean, not messy, waterer

This waterer is our second one. The first froze over the below freezing temperature spell we had earlier this month, January 2025. This waterer is higher quality than most of the others in this price range with dedicated spouts for our chickens. But it does have a few drawbacks which is the reason for the one star deduction.

Pros: 5 gallons means you only have to refill once a week for 6 chickens
Individual spouts means a cleaner area with less water evaporation and spills around the container
Lid keeps dirt and debris out of water with a dedicated hose spout location.
High quality plastic and access to spouts on two sides

Cons: Due to the shape, there is not a great heater option for below freezing temperatures. most heaters are for metal containers or for circular containers and sits on the base. Since this is neither metal, nor circular, it was very tough to find a heater that would keep the water from freezing and also not melt the plastic

Since it is plastic, if it freezes when over half full, the expansion will likely crack the container which is what happened with our first one

There is a hose spout with a cap and then a triangular lid that sits on top. This is nice to keep out debris, but can get annoying having to set aside the cap and the triangular top when filling.

Overall I really like it better than most options which is why I bought another one. Can't beat it for the price and would be perfect if you live in a warmer climate where it doesn't freeze. Still worth the money if you find the right heater for it in cold weather as well.

    Good

We have liked this for our chickens but I wish the handle was stronger to hang it. Had to get a block to sit it on.

    GOTTA HAVE IT!

Bought for our flock of 16 and it has been the most useful product I've bought for our coop. Keeps chickens from sitting on it, pooping on it, etc. If it's filled completely, it will last around 5/7 days (in the summer) which makes for a very low maintenance coop. Easy to clean out too which is a must since the water starts to mold after a week but the little cups are so easy to remove for cleaning and reattach.
I recommend this for my sister who has a larger coop of 25, and she was excited to purchase but the product is currently unavailable. I know when it's back, I'll be recommending it again to fellow chicken peeps!

Keeps Water Clean & Rats Out!

I used to have a large chicken waterer with a trough, but soon realized it was not only hard to keep clean it was attracting rats! I immediately switched to this style and now the rats have lost their precious water source. (You should do the same with their food. We use Grandpas Feeder, which protects the food from being accessible to rodents.)

I have six chickens, so works great in the summer to make sure they have plenty of water. It's easy to clean and refill.

You can buy these nipple separately and make those waterer on your own, but I don't have the time.

    It's perfect

It took my chickens one day and a few demonstrations to figure it out. After that they didn't show any interest in their other waterer. They definitely love it, and it's very easy to fill and keep clean. The only thing that would make this perfect is if it came on legs or a stand, but regardless, this is a fantastic waterer.

    No more dirty water

Love it and my chickens too. Don't have to worry about dirty water. The cone is perfect on the top to keep the chicken from standing on top.

    Hens love it

I was skeptical at first, but the chickens took right to it and now i don't have to worry about them wading and pooping in their water dish!

    Easy to train and fill

Couple treats in the cups and the birds figured out the nipple quickly. You have to put it on something to get it off the ground a little or the hens will fill the cups with dirt

    Great purchase!

Works great for our 7 hens. With 4 drinking spots and 5 gallons of water, I don't need to refill every day and they all take turns nicely. Good quality, easy to fill and clean. The girls and I are all happy with it.

    Works great

Decided to try out this water container for my chickens instead of our big galvanized container. This container was easy to set up and clean. Took chickens a couple minutes to figure out but they seem to enjoy it. No issues so far!

    Two years in use

I have been using this chicken water bucket for two years in Michigan. I use a warmer plate underneath it in the winter and never had issues with it freezing. I like that I can kind of see where the water level is on the side through the plastic. I also like that the chickens can’t perch on top of the bucket and poop all over it. I have 18 chickens and depending on how warm it is the water can last a few days.

Chickens took to it rather well

We were using the cups, so I was worried the chickens wouldn't understand how to use the nipples, but they took to it very quickly. I do wish I'd read the listing better as I didn't realize this was a 'corner' bucket and would have preferred one with nipples all the way around.

It works great and gives the chickens clean water for over a week

I've been using this waterer for my 6 chickens for about 3 months now. It really works! The chickens quickly learned to press the button to get the water to dribble out into the little cup below. What I really like is that the 5 gallons will last just over a week in the hottest time of summer. I cleaned it for the first time today, but to be honest, it really didn't need cleaning. There was no sign of mildew or dirt inside. This waterer is worth the price in my opinion. I plan to buy another smaller version for outside the chicken run, when they are out foraging for bugs in their favorite spot in the woods. (Hopefully the squirrels won't be able to use it!)

    Mostly Great Design

Overall I’m very happy with this. The design keeps the water clean, saves time and prevents water waste! The triangular cone on top is a thoughtful design element which keeps chickens off the water keeping the exterior of the unit clean. Chickens learned to use quickly. I set mine on top of cement blocks. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it can only be purchased with two nipples in front and two on the left hand side of the unit if you are facing the unit. This makes it impossible to place two units next to each other w/out blocking nipples. It would be nice if there were a version with nipples on the right hand side so waters could be placed next to each other. Other than that great design!

Excellent product, decent customer service, but replacement parts are expensive.

We've been running these for 40 chickens since 2018. Birds are locked in the coop at night but free range one acre during the day. One nipple fount is in the coop, and a big open pail of water is outside. Together, that's plenty of water for 40 birds. When it freezes hard, our birds stay in the coop all day. They drink over a gallon a day, so we have to refill the fount every 2 days. It's worth noting that as the water level goes down, flow from the water nipples is reduced. So although it's a 5 gallon fount, we always refill at half full.

We have an entire spare fount on hand, just in case the one in the coop breaks. It's plastic, which gets brittle when frozen, so when it's cold we don't open it, we use the fill plug on top.

If you buy new one from Rentacoop, those fill plugs cost $3 each - ouch - and they will break again after a couple years.
In fact, all their replacement parts seem expensive to me. Perhaps they are not made in China. I don't know. You could adapt something else, or whittle a wood plug. $3 for a silly little plastic plug that lasts 2 years is a bit much.

Our founts don't leak much. We agitate the metal part to clear the nipples. If you let crud buildup in your water, that would probably gunk up the nipples and make them leak a lot. But your chickens need clean water anyway, so clean the bucket every week or so, depending on algae buildup. If dirt is getting in there, you're doing something wrong. Keep it clean.

We also put Oxyne in the water, diluted to .09 %, for overall chicken health. This has reduced chicken respiratory illness substantially for us. The Oxyne has the side benefit of reducing algae buildup in the fount during warm months.

I would not place this fount in direct sun. We live in Texas and the strong sun kills plastic. Keep it in the shade.

Our fount came with an anti-roosting cap on top. Rentacoop also included two extra nipples. They should also include extra fill plugs, given that they get brittle in 2 years and begin to crack up.
