RentACoop Big Red Barn Chick Brooder

It is appealing this can get hosed off and folded up until it is needed again. However, where the folds are, are already worn so I’m not sure how many times this will fold and u fold before those areas rip/break. Love the size. Love that it keeps chicks safe from feline housemates. It fits perfectly on a pop up table so it can be off the floor and easier to access chicks and to clean. I liked the included pads a lot until the chicks started to shred them. I have taken them out and don’t use either pad now, just have shavings in. And really like the included light. It kept falling off inside but it illuminates fine just laid across the closed top.

It’s pretty easy to put together I got confused on 1 part but a YouTube video helped tremendously. It came with all the parts. It’s so cute and is the Taj Mahal to my chicks

Great product but I’m missing the screw to the lock and there is no where to message the seller for a replacement screw. It’s a really nice size brooder. Wish there was a way to put the food and water on the outside for easier filling.

Our initial coop arrived with cracked plexiglass and missing screws for the hardware that keeps the door closed. I contacted Rent A Coop and had a replacement at my door within a week. We had 10 chicks in this brooder for 4 weeks. We had a small “training roost” and the Rent A Coop heat lamp, and 2 Rent a Coop Feeders and 2 Rent a Coop waterers. I love how easy this is to clean and keep an eye on the chicks. We ended up using our “broken” barn as a hospital for an adult hen and it was the perfect size. Hose it off and it all folds up when done. Highly recommend.

Feels really cheaply made. Came two days late and damaged all around. As you can see in the photo. The areas it comes folded are badly stressed. The latches came broke and I needed it immediately for some pullets so I had to figure it out as the tiny nails used wouldn’t even screw back in. Fast forward a week of having two small birds in it, the part that holds the plexy glass doors starts coming unglued allowing any wood shavings to fall out of it. All in all I’d say spend the $50 extra to buy a wood one..this ones just not good and feels like a cardboard box.

Not hard plastic. It is made out of corrugated plastic. You can see in the photos the crease marks where the plastic was folded. That will be a point of failure.

The latch fasseners use wood screws into the plexiglass and have already popped off in less than 4 hours.

Gave the 2nd star because it was easy to assemble else it would have been 1 star. Definitely not worth the money.

Fantastic so far!!!! Kiddos love the door/window area! We needed a brooder that the chicks were protected from our cat! This is great! I absolutely recommend!

This is a big upgrade to our usual cardboard box or storage tub. Has lots of cutouts for hanging feeders and running cords safely.
The box it comes in is quality as well so you can count on it for storing the brooder between hatches.
It's made of corrugated plastic board so we can hose it out.
I don't have any complaints as yet. Love it!

We really love this brooder! It’s sturdy and big and it’s cute! We LOVE that it has a viewing window (which slides open).

It comes with a Jute pad to put down for bedding … we tried that but then the birds spilled their water (no idea how) and it soaked the pad and had to pitch it within 24hrs. Also the birds pecked and pulled and ripped parts of it to shreds! There weren’t any directions or information that came with that so I am clueless if it was okay, but better safe than sorry I suppose.

Next, because they did spill their water, the Jute pad didn’t soak ALL of it, and water did flow out of two corners, which was fine, but surprising.

The viewing window is awesome but our birds love to peck at the shiny parts from the inside - not sure if it was them pecking or the dogs nose on the window, but the latch came up pretty quick after I made sure it was secure, so be cautious about the latch and maybe consider reinforcement by tying the handles together — i can see these meddling hens possibly maneuvering this thing open! Plus our dogs and child just love to sit and watch them …. So do I. I’ll be kind of sad when they smell too bad to keep in the living room soon!

The top is slotted for ventilation and velcros down on 3 sides and raises up which is super convenient. There’s plenty of ventilation in the sides, too, which also means they tend to kick bedding out a bit at times. There’s handles on the side making for easy moving when needed but with two people because it’s so long.

We are excited to start our chicken-ing journey with the Big Red Barn, and it’ll be a great thing to have on hand as a chicken hospital or for quarantine when not being used as a brooder. It folds back up to easily store back in the box which is super convenient, too!

I’d say it was worth the $119, considering a metal brooder from the Farm Store was $145.

I'm very happy with My Big Red Barn. It has certainly met my needs as a brooder for my new chicks. Every year I struggled to find a large enough box, not this year or, years to come. I'm very pleased how easy it is to clean and access. It's perfect for our grandkids to observe the chicks. Didn't love the light that came with it. Ended up using another light source. I would recommend this product to others.

This has been the easiest chicks-in-the-living room experience, thanks to Rent a Coop's Big Red Brooder with accessories package. The light, door, feeders, waterers, heat plate and liners are amazing (I put the swing in there for five minutes and a chick injured his leg almost immediately - so I would definitely not use that again - he recovered about 48 hours later thankfully! It is a great stand for a feeder or waterer though!). We also splurged on the hemp bedding and I will not ever go back to pine. It is still dusty but when used with the liners you don't need much, and it does help absorb droppings. Not one case of pasty butt in either of the two rounds of chicks we did this year, and this brooder made everything such a breeze. We put it up on a large folding table from Walmart to get it off the floor and it was really perfect. Love how easy it is to clean and fold up for next year...!

Love it and the quail chicks do to. I was skeptical about the heating plate. So worth it.

This brooder box is perfect for our use. I LOVE the abilityit has to fold flat and store until next time. The ability to wipe down and clean is also a big plus. Great product!

Arrived quickly and in good condition. Still waiting on chicks so i cant say how it will hold up but i think itll be great.

I’ve tried many different brands and absolutely love this one! We always have chicks and this is so easy to assemble, it’s sturdy and durable and very easy to clean!

I love this brooder. Is nice and big. Easy to put together. I love how it fits the 2.5 lb feeder and chick waterer perfect. No more tipped over water and food scattered everywhere. I had to leave a review because I can’t believe this doesn’t have 5 stars across the board. The best features are the large size, ventilation and roof. It really doesn’t need the viewing/sliding windows unless you’re in a classroom or something.

I love that this is a quick and easy assembly and take down. Easy to run out to the hose to clean out.
I have 2 ducks in mine currently. Since they are waterfowl they need a lot of water to drink and clean their noses, If too much water is spilled inside the bottom will start to leak. and you'll have a mess..If this will be outside then this is perfect! If you are indoors I recommend a towel under the full length of the brooder. Outside of the leaking issue I had this is a really great product that I can stow away and use again in the future! I was worried about the heat melting plastic if we left the heating lamp on too long but this is such a good quality that wasn't even an issue!

Four stars from my tiny leak. Otherwise this would easily have gotten 5 stars.

this has made my life so much easier. It was super easy to pop open and set up. I feel so much better that my baby chicks have a safe place to grow. I have had 10 chicks in here with plenty of room. I love the feeder and waterer-no more mess! this is definitely worth the money and I would buy it again!

Mine came broken, latch for the front door was damaged and fell off
