RentACoop 25lb BPA-Free Chicken Feeder with 4 Large Ports and Adjustable Stand - Center Placement

We run our chickens in electric netting paddocks and rotate them. The feeders are used outside and the plastic practically disintegrated after a year. I wouldn’t recommend these to anyone planning to use them outdoors. The plastic is so brittle and snaps off in shards and is completely unsafe. I was pressing the lid onto the container and it caved in.

I purchased the feeder and Waterer for my 5 hens. My hens are in a nice size coop 24/7 due to all the predators I have here in the country. Both work extremely well and stay free of droppings. Also there is very little waste which is a great money saver. I do have one problem, because I use pine shavings on the floor of the coop, I have constant pine shavings in the feeder opening. I have to clear the shavings twice a day. I have raised the feeder up on cement blocks but I have one bantam hen so I have to be careful not to get the feeder too high for her. I try to keep the shavings at a minimum but they do help keep the floor clean and reduce odor. Also dust cakes around the water spouts so I clean those daily with a spray water bottle. I would highly recommend both. I live in Texas and it’s very hot. I no longer worry about the chickens running out of water.

We bought this Chicken 2-port corner feeder 3 months ago for our 2 new pullets, Barbara Ann and Rhonda. It looks great with the matching red/white nipple waterer (also from Rent-A-Coop) in their "Little Deuce Coop" that we built for them. It's very sturdy and great that you can see how much feed is left through the translucent container (true with the waterer also). This holds a lot of feed, so for just 2 chickens we should only have to refill it every several months.

We have about 4" of coarse sand at the bottom of the coop, so we made bases to sit the feeder and waterer on top of that raises them about 6" higher. They immediately starting eating and drinking out of both containers...cheekins are so smart! They still drop some outside in the run near the feeder which has actually sprouted into edible grass making their run even more interesting for them!

Now we can spend more time watching and playing with our new pets. If someone (are you listening Rent-A-Coop???) would just make an automatic roost cleaner, our chores would be done except collecting the eggs of course!

UPDATE: My chickens are still enjoying their feeder. It has made feeding much easier and not have to worry about them having their food. I did run into a bit of a snag. I ended up having a problem with mice. Little suckers figure how to get in the openings and have a feast. I wasn't sure what to do so I posted on the "question & answers". The owners left a message to contact them. I did and they sent me some caps for the feeder. I got them the other day and they are perfect. I do have to take them out every morning but that's not a problem since I have to let the chickens out of the coop anyway. ..... This company takes care of their customers. I will be expanding my chicken pen and will probably add another feeder since I plan on getting a few more chickens. *Thank you RentaCoop for resolving my issue.

My girls took to this right away. They love it! I love it. I'm not sure how long it will hold up in this Arizona heat. I will just buy another one. That is how much I like this feeder. Before I had so much waste. I use pellets and the feeder I had before everything landed on the ground. I have four hens and I buy 20 lbs of feed at a time cause I can't life more than that. Wish I had seen this before I spent all that money on the other feeder that the food kept getting wet. We are having rain now and food is nice and dry.

Been using these feeders for a couple of years they are great and you can put a large quantity of feed in them, but my chickens have no feathers left on their necks because going in and out of the holes rubs their feathers off ….thinking of switching to a different kind of feeder because they look terrible.

Ad for a chicken feeder, it really is great. Everything works just as you hope it will. However, it appears the only way to keep mice out if to suspend it in the air...we've tried everything else. Every night when I go to check that the youngest Flock members have made in to the coop at night, no less than 10 mice come flying out of the feeder :(

I bought this feeder in November 2021. It's now June 2024 and it broke today. While it lasted, it worked perfectly and I was very happy with it. Unfortunately, it's not as UV resistant as I had hoped, so the plastic crumbled after just over 2 1/2 years. I found that they sell just the vents on Amazon, so I'm going to buy them next and make my own for much cheaper using a 5 gallon bucket. We'll see how long my homemade version lasts compared to this one.

I don't write many product reviews, but felt very compelled to write one for the Rent-A-Coop feeder. I made a chicken feeder that seemed to work well (it lived inside the coop but we could fill it from outside the coop) until our hens decided they preferred to carpet their coop in chicken feed. It was disgusting and it was expensive. We were going through a bag of food per week with only four hens and as the weather got damp, the food on the coop floor became foul.

We purchased the Rent-A-Coop and at first I was skeptical. It seemed pricy for what seemed like a bucket with a few thoughtfully placed holes and plastic ducts. But I figured, if it made a bag of chicken feed last even an extra week, it would quickly pay for itself. I'm writing this review because I see the chickens eating from it, but we have been stretching the same bag of food for a lot longer than we ever had. I am now realizing that we ALWAYS had a problem with the chickens wasting food, it just got worse before we bought this product. We would have easily gone through four bags of food by now which would have been substantially more expensive than this feeder. You are paying for the design. And, while it may seem simple, it is a great design. The economics of this purchase turned out to be superb.

The only thing I could wish for is a way to purchase extra lids. If I had an extra lid I could drill a four inch hole in so I could fill the feeder from the outside of the coup using a PVC pipe, I would have the perfect feeder. I just don't want to do anything experimental with the lid if I don't have a way to replace it in case I botch something up. But overall, I am grateful we made the leap and purchased this product. We are happy campers.

I was having a tough time keeping the wild birds of all sizes out of the chicken run where I had the traditional galvanized feeder. Throughout the day, there wasn't a moment birds weren't flying in and just sitting in their food and picking out the layered feed. I tried not leaving food out and throwing feed down on the ground 3x a day but as soon as I'd turn my back, wild birds were down there eating it with them - ugh! I even have wild bird feeders full of food but nope, they ate my girls feed too.

Found this and have been using for about 6 weeks. Not one wild bird has gone in the hole to eat their food! I hardly ever see them fly into the run now and when they do, they hop around a min or two looking but fly off. I'm no longer worried about wild bird poop, lice, mites and whatever else wild birds can pass onto my ladies. Great product!

I realized I never wrote a review on this item when I searched it up to buy another one since my flock has doubled. I read a few bad reviews that really ticked me off.
One that had a 6 week old chick get stuck and die... this one is dumb, it clearly reads not for under age of 12 weeks. Duh!
The other most retarded review said they bought it before the left out of town for 5 days and this was their main food source. So let me get this straight, you bought it before you left without monitoring how your chickens would adapt? Seems like you ARE NOT a good chicken owner! I wish I could comment on the review. Pathetic!!
Once they get used to this it will work great. I have 10 chickens and this is fine but I am still wanting to add another because the feeder is most busy in the morning. If you don't add additional grains to it and just use layer feed they will not make a mess! If you add crap or use crap feed of course they will scoop out what they dont want to get to the 'junk' food or the only good food you have in there.

This feeder is great in many ways. It's held up in rain & snow. The "dome" you can place on top keeps the chickens from roosting on it. Mine just sits in the corner of my run, but I'll probably hang it once we've built our larger run. I like that it has that flexibility. I've been through several feeders, both purchased and homemade, and this is by far the best. My only complaint, and I don't know if it's a flaw with my feeder or if they are all like this for security, but it is really really tough to open the top. I love that the lid keeps out weather and moisture, but it's a struggle and takes a good bit of hand/finger strength to open. It came with instructions for how to open it, and I've followed them, but it still is a struggle. And although the lid has been holding up, I don't know how long the plastic edges can hold up under the amount of stress that is put on them. The plus side is that since it's so large, I can go a long time without filling it. But I like to check on the food every few days. I want to make sure the feed hasn't gotten moldy or infested with insects. As much as I love every other feature of this feeder, I'm not sure I would buy it again for this one reason.

2 year update.
I've tried several brands. Nothing holds up to this. I've recently started converting all water cups and port feeders solely because when a turkey and peacocks square off... metal is fine but humidity rusts. Rent a coop... has held up where 7 other brands have not. And worse others broke & became a waste. The one time they broke the port on this... I washed, reinsert ed and no one knows it was finally broken. 2020 purchase!

As for the cone top. When a mommy peahen is feeding 5 babies... we keep the lid off. As there's always a chick that sits in the feed and pigs out. Non baby season it keeps my piggy chickens in check but once it's down to 3 lbs mine knock over the whole thing like kung-fu was their native love language.

So far I've had to use the cone on top, but i mix feed with some extra goodies to keep happy hens... once they figured out how to use it we stopped spillage and im considering buying more when we get our 2 new coops. We ordered the corner model which makes it easier for me to place in a corner of the chicken tractor. I added a brick to raise it to the shoulder height of the birds and so far we have had rain, turkeys peafowl get into it and no issues with bugs or rodents yet. Easily assembles and saves a lot of time when feeding our small layer flock.

I bought these because I originally had a metal feeder that was open on the top and while I lived in the desert it worked fine. When I relocated to the east where it rains frequently, I had to make sure that the feeder was covered at all times to prevent the ran from wetting the food. The open ring around the old metal feeder collected splash up from rainstorms and ruined the food. THe metal also just did not do well in such a moist environment and parts started rusting and finally broke (of course it happed just after it was filled and spilled all over wet grass) I ordered 2 of these and they have worked so well for my area where we get frequent rains. Assembly was simple! Once my girls learned that there was food inside (which didn’t take long, when I used some dried meal worms for training and placing as instructed just inside and a few further in where the food was) they went to town! The food stays DRY. No rain or splash up getting the food wet. Very well made! They’re’ light, sturdy and easy to carry even when full of food. I love them and highly recommend!

This feeder is the answer! No more wasted, pooped on pellets. No more scattered pellets all over the coop. Easy to set up and maintain. By far the best feeder I have ever seen. It took my girls about 1 minute to figure it out. I just sprinkled a few pellets near the opening to give them the idea and in no time they were chowing down. Not sure how weather resistant it would be with the winds that accompany the storms here so I set it up inside the coop. Works fine there, nothing to clean up after a full month of use.

So far so good. I bought this for my 4 pekin ducks. They are 4 weeks old. Not to many reviews were for ducks, but the few that i did read were that it worked for them. So i thought i would give it a try. My ducks are fast growing so even at 4 weeks they are probably the size or more than an adult chicken. That being said, i filled it up with crumbles and put some right inside the edge of the opening so that they would get the general idea that is were there food comes from. I also put their absolute favorite treat of peas there too. Wha-la. They took to it right away.
It really does cut down on the mess and waste. I really cant comment on how it holds up outside as my ducks are still in the garage at this point due to there age. But, i cant see why it wouldn’t hold up. Now if your handy, yes you could make this yourself. But I purchased this cause my husband is busy making there shelter and pen.
So, as far as cost, yes it is on the expensive side @ 60 bucks. It is a bucket with 2 holes an some pvc piping. It is strong and i think it will last the test of time. Would i purchase it again? YES.
But like i said, if you are handy you could make your own...my husband would have a fit if he knew i spent that much on it. Lol so mums the word here. Happy Duck days!!!!

I waited a month to give this review.. I wanted to see if this product really worked... I live in a very cold climate (extreme) and own 15 chickens & 3 ducks. So scooping chicken food and running thru a yard in below zero weather was very painful, & trying to go on a vacation was even worse. So I purchased 4 chicken bucket feeders and filled them to the top and put them under my barn awning were I feed my chickens & ducks, just a NOTE: the other reason for the purchase was the wasted feed between the very messy ducks & chicken mess that outside birds were stealing (I wasted a LOT!!) .. At first I wasnt sure if the ducks would take to the feeders... I was so shocked !! both the chickens & ducks LOVED them ... it became almost fun for them to stick their little beaks in the tubes and dig for their food ...They love it!! and it literally lasted a month!! I opened the buckets when it was down to the last crumb expectig it to be smelly and moist or anything but clean, IT WAS FRESH AS THE DAY I PUT THE FOOD IN!! seriously!! and NOT ONE OUNCE WENT TO WASTE!! Im giving this review because this is FREEDOM to a chicken /duck owner!! andi its worth its weight in GOLD!! Thank you to whoever invented this !!!!

I’m a first-time chicken owner and was very happy with the coop and chicken run that I had built. Still, I was not happy with the amount of food waste that was taking place with my regular chicken feed. My chickens would knock out a good portion of their food from the traditional feed and I felt a lot was going to waste. Then, while trying to find a solution, I found this product. Though I was skeptical, I soon became a believer. The chickens can’t knock out their food now and it literally took me 15 minutes of showing them where the food was for them to get it. I was worried that they might not know the food was in there but after putting a little bit crumbs of food at the circular entrance and on the floor next to the bucket, within 15 min they learned to put their head inside the openings to get food. I love that can hold so much food and that he keeps it dry. Even though this container is in a covered area I built specifically to be protected against rain and to put their food bin, it’s still an added protection and I love that it has a right fit cover. So happy I decide to spend the money and go with this. Love it!

I love this feeder --- and more importantly, so do my chickens! I was worried they either wouldn't clue in as to how to use it (I have a treadle feeder that has been a complete failure) or wouldn't like sticking their heads inside it. Happily, every one of them caught on right away and I have now added a second feeder and am considering a third for our large flock. We were having a big problem with wild birds descending on the chicken yard like locusts, but not now --- the little birds, even bigger starlings, can't eat out of these feeders! (We set each feeder on a cement block to give the right height to the chickens) The ONLY reason I gave this a 4 instead of a 5 is that the dang LID hurts my fingers and is very difficult to remove to refill the bucket. I wish they would redesign the lid or provide a tool with which to open it.

UPDATE JANUARY 22, 2018 - As I said before, I love this feeder, but the lid is tough to remove. I got a Shur-line 06020 Lid Opener (currently 5.96 on Amazon with Prime) and haven't had a single bit of trouble since. The concept of this item is very ingenious, but the execution for the cost does not align. The item does everything that is advertised - it keeps food pest-free, it protects from weather, it avoids spillage, etc...But the reason I bought three of these instead of crafting something similar myself was because my assumption was that buying an item like this from a supplier who is making these en mass would be a better quality product than I would do myself. We bought three of these units at around $55 each. This is literally a bucket and PVC pipe. The seller entered the fold of creating a product for sale, but did not step up to make it feel like a professional product. The PVC pipes still had price stickers on them that they tried to peel off but left the sloppy sticker residue on it like if your were taking the price tag off of someone's gift. Not a big deal, but it just says, "we are amateurs and don't care about presentation at all on your new purchase". The hole that was cut in the bucket on the inside was very jagged on most cuts. I would have expected that this would have been routed and smoothed professionally in a perfect circular cut, or at least sealed with a non-toxic resin over the jagged spots. I am sure they figured since it is on the inside, it doesn't matter how it looks - but it does because you are selling a high-priced item and there is an expectation of quality. The overhang inserts fit snugly only 50/50 of the time, and the loose ones will require adhesive or they will be falling off regularly. All-in-all, I paid more for these because I was hoping the job would be done professionally, and now I feel disappointed that I spent $165 on something that feels very home-made.

Am I being too critical? Its just a chicken feeder - but I expect if I am going to buy a $55 bucket three times, part of what I am buying is that it doesn't seem janky and DIY. The design is very smart though, I just would like to see the manufacturer take more pride in making this item feel like a quality product.
