I was on the fence, buy this feeder. I was safing for the large Grand pa feeder. Read a few reviews on this one and wow glad I did. It's made very well I put clear tape on the trendle that they step on added some feed, with in a few minutes that was gone the bam they started eating from it no problem. I'm still going to do the steps to make the comfortable. Thank you for a great product.

First off, I’m a bona fide chicken owner/lover. I’m not a troll paid by a company to push their product. That said I’ll get to it. A couple weeks ago I thought I’d try a rodent/bird proof chicken feeder. After some research and based on all the positive reviews (mistake) I settled on the standard Grandpas chicken feeder. Amazon delivered it a few days later and I was fairly impressed. Some days later I decided to get some new chicks and wound up getting eleven to add to my flock. Alas, the Grandpas feeder was going to be sorely overwhelmed so I thought I’d get the larger Grandpas feeder but Amazon said that it was unavailable and did not know when or if it would be. So I looked around and found the RentACoop feeder w/40-pound capacity. There’s not a lot of reviews on YouTube about it or the Internet for that matter. The few I did find rated it number 2 behind the Grandpas.I went ahead and ordered it from Amazon and it too was delivered a few days later. After inspection and assembly I must say that I’m very VERY impressed. One review I read said or implied that Grandpas uses superior materials than the other brands. I don’t find this when comparing the RentACoop at all. For example at Grandpas they say they use galvanized metal and alloy for stability and strength. Well RentAcoop uses galvanized metal also, however the metal they use is thicker.RentAcoop Metal is .0396” or 20 Gauge. Thicker metalGrandpas metal is .0276 or 24 Gauge. Thinner metalWhich do you think would be more stable and stronger? Hint: Thicker and heavier is stronger. What about design features. In Grandpas assembly instructions they recommend putting plywood over the feeder as a rain guard when the feed tray is uncovered during training. How about when the chickens are eating in the rain?RentAcoop provides a rain shield that’s there all the time. Problem solvedWith Grandpas you are left with plugging the training holes yourself to prevent water getting in the food storage area.RentACoop provides you with nice tape to cover the holes.Grandpas assembly instructions say to prevent chickens from reaching around the sides and eating to just put boxes there to prevent this.RentACoop provides two nice pre-drilled blinders to install permanently.Grandpas provides you with a flat top for the food storage bin. Problem is chickens like to roost on and crap all over it.RentACoop provides a very nice ridge roof to discourage the chickens from trying to roost.RentAcoop provides a means to regulate the flow for the type of feed you’re using.Grandpas- perhaps they think this is not necessary.RentACoop provides two springs to prevent the food tray from opening.I paid more for Grandpas than I did the RentACoop.Don’t know about you but I like paying less and getting more than paying more and getting a lot LESS!Dave

So proud of my chickens and this well designed auto feeder. Had a trip on short notice and was able to crash train my 10 chickens to use it in the fully closed condition in 3 days!Only defect on the unit was one of the rivets connecting the lever plate to the arm was broken at arrival. It didn't really affect the function luckily.

I got this in hopes of getting rid of the rats, and it’s working. The chickens had no problem learning how to use it over the course of two weeks, and the rats can’t get into it at all.

Tina Gasperson: 5.0 out of 5 stars This saves me a lot of chicken feed - takes a few days for them to learn how to use it

The media could not be loaded. I got this so I could be sure that the hens would have plenty of food when I wasn't there. I also wanted to be able to leave the feeder out and not have to worry about rats or rain. You have to work with your hens for several days to get them acclimated to the feeder, especially if your hens tend to be skittish. I have one or two skittish hens that would freak out from the noise of the feeder and that would scare them all. They finally got used to it and it's no problem anymore.I really can't believe how much longer my chicken feed lasts now that I have this feeder set up. I wasn't expecting that. So while the feeder is fairly expensive, at least it is starting to pay for itself.

just an opinion: 5.0 out of 5 stars Great product

It took a little while for the girls to really learn to use it. We added a small weight on the pad till the girls were grown. There is 0 waste, rodents can’t get in, it keeps feed dry, perfect. Loved it so much we ordered another. The customer service is excellent. We had a bit of a problem with the 2nd order but the staff really helped out & cleared it up quickly.Highly recommend.
