These caps are very well designed with a nice deep handle for your fingers to grip, twist, & pull the cap for removal. Yet- this would not be at all possible for a raccoon because they do not have opposable thumbs like humans. There’s also NO way that rodents can chew through the port cap and gain entry into the feeder through the port, because the finger grip design blocks access and leaves no internal edges to chew.
These caps are a great solution for port feeders! Thanks Rent a Coop!
Just in case others can’t tell from the photos - these caps are 3D printed. 2 out 6 caps ordered fit very well. The other 4 were either too big or too small. 2/6 caps were printed well and had smooth-ish sides (not the ones that fit well though). The other 4 were rough and had strands of filament (plastic material used for 3D printing) sticking out. Maybe I just received a bad batch? Unfortunately, covering only 2 of 6 ports defeats the purpose so I’ll be returning all 6 caps. Neat concept though!
These fit securely in the port hole. Out of the two I purchased, both were a snug fit with one going in a bit easier than the other. They definitely do the job of keeping mice out!
I love the 10 lb feeders and these port covers make them even better. The covers fit in the port hole and block put any mice and bugs that normally could crawl in. We dont have mice, yet, but we do have alot of spiders and ear wigs that for some reason love the chicken coop and run so they were perfect for that. Fits tight and is fairly easy to remove, just have to remember to take them in the morning.
I ordered 4 of these covers and 3 of them are loose when I put them in the ports, I have come out several mornings and the covers are off and I have mouse poop in my chickens food. I'm guessing the mice are somehow getting them off when they are trying to get to the food. If they fit tight like the tight one I would give them 5 stars.
I have 7 bucket feeders from Rentacoop. I love them. No waste, easy to carry! The mouse caps are amazing! I used to lug them each night to store in metal trash cans. With the mouse caps, I can rest easy knowing critters aren't feasting at night
Love the mouse caps, they don't seem to fit perfectly inside, you have to wiggle the caps on. But once you jam them in for the night they stay in, I know my raccoons couldn't figure it out. unfortunately, I left the feeder with the caps on in my free range area instead of in the fenced in run, a bear bit through the feeder only to decide he didn't actually want any of the feed. Had to order a replacement feeder. However, for animals small than a bear, the caps work wonderful.
